Fiefs as Marshall
« on: May 19, 2011, 12:20:44 AM »
I'm playing as the Marshall of Empire and don't think I have enough Right to Rule to start my own kingdom yet.

I've been voting to give castles and fiefs to other lords so I could get this one fief I want, but now that it is its turn the most favorable lords are telling me that I have been awarded appropriate fiefs for my accomplishments.

Is it just Renown that contols this, or also honor and right to rule?

It's all about renown - the more you have - the more fiefs you'll be able to get. Except there's a little override of that - if you relations with your king high enough - he'll gonna give most of fiefs anyways, even though it'll upset most lords, so they'll even start defecting eventually.

This was back in 3.204.  As Marshal for the Empire I had:

Killed the Sarleon and D'Shar
the Empire controlled 3/4 of the map
I personally controlled 11 holdings - including 4 cities
Very high relations with dozens of Lords
4,000 renown
100+ honor
12 Right to Rule.

This route was a lot of fun, but I stopped because there seemed no way for me to win.  There was no way to overthrow Marius and take control of the Empire.  And if I renounced my Oath to start my own Kingdom, I lost all my holdings and it would be virtually impossible to beat the Empire I had built up.

Am I missing something that there's no way to win from a Vassal or Marshall where you can take your holdings with you, use the lords that love you, and start a kingdom and win?

Take a castle/town, ask it to be rewarded to you, if your liege refuses then rebel and keep all your holdings

You can convince the lords you to join you but if they have numerous fiefs in their current kingdom they would likely refuse. Take all their lands and talk to them, they will be completely pissed off at their liege.
(if you take enough fiefs from a king he will offer you a peace agreement, some stupid king declared war on me then asked for a peace agreement 3 days later

Whoo hoo!  I've been wronged!  I clearly deserved that castle and now have my Cassus Belli.  I formed my kingdom and as all the attached fiefs come with the Castles and Towns, I took Half the Empire with me.  But I have no Lords.

And as I was on campaign at the time, I'm surrounded by Empire Lords that are now immediately at war with me.

How do I get them to come over to my side?  I have relation 100 with many of them, but they won't speak in private with me.  Do they have to be in a castle, not in the field?  Or at Peace?

Thanks,
Haplo

Capture them, then talk to them, you'll have the option to ask them to join you.

I am currently helping Madame Ursula reclaim the throne of ravenstern... I've captured a lord But every time I try to speak with him,The only option I get is to release him by paying me  a X amount of money

You can only ask a Lord to speak in private if they aren't in a campaign or otherwise around other Lords. So you have to wait for them to be alone then ask. Keep in mind the cooldown if this fails is like, 90 days or something.

Same, I don't get the option to convert them when I capture them.  I only have the option to ransom them.

You need to have around 20 relation with them to have that option and I think it doesn't work with the claimant quest.

I got one of them alone and walked through him considering the different reasons to join and not to join.  I'm not confident he'll join.  Does the 90 day cooldown only take effect if I do the final "It is time for you to make your decision'?  Or will there already be a cooldown since he walked through all the reasons to join and not to join?

I think the cooldown is only if you actually force it. You can basically test it, see how they sound and back out if you want.
