You are more than welcome to try.  I would in fact watch the episode.  I just don't have much faith in them to test this very scientifically.

They're basically amatures with a lot of funds.

I wouldn't say they're amateurs, they just act like it. I think they're smart enough to run a scientific experiment if they wanted to, but they do the show the way it is because it's entertaining to average "non-sciencey" people, some special effects guys doing experiments with what they have in their shop and destroying pig carcasses and blowing up cars is more "fun" than scientists working in a fancy lab where most of the actual work is doing research and recording results.

But all in all, I do agree with you, just for different reasons.  :D

Or maybe Brainiacs are the right people? After all, they managed to do the quicksand bit that Mythbusters couldn't...
