I need some voice acting.

I've figured out how to get the armies to respond dynamically with sounds when you give orders, and for the commander to give orders with a voice (imagine that).

Problem is, I need some sounds.  Hence the call for volunteer work.

You don't have to have a "movie voice"; I can make most people's voices sound surprisingly good.  Unfortunately, I have a fairly nasal "nerd voice" (imagine that, coder with dorky voice).  It's not so awful that I can't use it, but I'm hoping for something better.

And I absolutely need some female vocals for this, if at all possible.   You can make a guy sound like a girl, but it's not ideal.   The more the merrier; more variety of vocals is better than just one person.

Phrases I need, for a basic demonstration (i.e., a movie; I have a Plan about how to show this off... if I can get the voices):

1.  Phrases for troops.  These should just be yelled (try not to wake your neighbors, heh):

A.  "Chaaaaaaaarge!"
B.  "Freeeeedom!"  (because it's amusing, and this isn't a mod that takes itself too seriously)
C.  "Sire!"
D.  "Yes, m'lord!"
E.  "Immediately, sir!"
F.  Anything else you think might be fun, that's short.  Don't try for witty sentences; it needs to be short, sweet and loud.  Don't just shout; there are plenty of shouts available.  Unless you're female, that is; there aren't nearly enough female shouts.

2.  Phrases for the commander.

A.  "Hold this line!"
B.  "Assemble here!"
C.  "Steady..."
D.  "Advance!"
E.  "Forward!"
F.  "Charge!"
G.  "Now!"
H.   Again, anything fun would be nice, but here it's giving orders- the should be short and really to the point, and said in a firm tone, and not incredibly explicit- "dress ranks" might be appropriate for Hold Position, for example, but it's probably going to confuse newbs.

I know that realistically, the men should be pitching their voices up like military folks do today (that's a very old practice) but it'll probably cause whining from people who don't know what orders are supposed to sound like, so I would prefer to have it pitched naturally, unless somebody here has an excellent "sarge voice", in which case I'll use it and take the blame when people whine.

Anybody who wishes to contribute anonymously, PM me about it.  I don't want people (especially the women) to feel like their privacy would be invaded by sharing their voice (IDK why, but it tends to make people nervous, lol).  Otherwise, I'll be happy to credit you for helping the mod out with what is, I think, a potentially-awesome feature, in terms of immersion.

Hints / Tips for getting a recording I can use:

1.  A headset mic is actually just fine for this.  Just don't do it too near the mic, because then all we'll hear is your breath against the mic, when speaking loud.
2.  Ideally, do it where there isn't much noise.  Like, if you're going to do it with a headset and your PC is loud, move away if you can.  Don't stress too much about, though; I have various ways to clean up some types of noise.   If you're tech, savvy, record it with your phone in a quiet room.
3.  Don't try to edit it much.  It's better to do three takes of "chaaaaaarge" at one go, then send me the whole file.  I will cut it and pick the take I like.  Just relax and do it, and don't worry too much if it's "good enough"- I've had to do voice acting for my games before, and the secret is to not think about it much.
4.  If you're tech savvy, I would like the sounds in a compressed format.  If you're not sure what that means, don't worry about it, just zip it and upload it somewhere (again, you can PM me if you don't want the whole world to know it was you, and I will never reveal it to anybody).
5.  I don't care if you have an accent, but it must be clearly-spoken English.  I'd prefer British, Scottish and Irish voices to Americans, simply because it sounds better, but I am going to be lucky if I get enough volunteers.
6.  You can't fake a shout.  Some of these things really should be shouted.  You will really have to take care not to wake / bother your neighbors, pets, children or Significant Others.

Anyhow, sorry bug people for something like this, but like I said, it's something that I could use, and the results will be well worth it, I think, and will make the mod much more immersive-feeling.

I'll give it a try later. Being a soldier gives me a booming voice, but not sure how I would sound in english. The only game I ever recorded sounds for was Worms Armagedon :D Of course, I had to modify my voice to sound funny.

Triggers tracking order key-presses a la those motomataru developed for hooking formations into native orders? Or did you devise another way? (Sorry, just curious).

This sounds like an excellent idea.

Something vaguely like that.  IDK how closely my approach matches, because it's been ages since I read any of that code, but there really aren't a lot of ways to skin that cat.  Basically it just intercepts when an order's been given, to which group, then handles it with an Agent iteration.  It's not complicated logic at all, but without some content, it's fairly useless.  It's just barely working atm; I'm still trying to make it reasonably efficient (since it needs to run constantly).
(click to show/hide)I also got rid of the cheater radar (i.e., no more prsnt_battle) and got rid of access to inventory during battles and fixed the ammo-replenishment bug in open-field battles, since ammo access has turned out to be a fairly big deal for balance; basically players are back to having to buy ammo on a regular basis again, or fight quickly enough to avoid running out.  I expect howling just from the lack of cheater radar, lol.
