Celtichugs, thanks for some explanations. Although I consider myself familiar with early medieval Europe history, I am more expert-like in vikings, and the most - slavs (I guess). I like history of celts, but never read any specific book about them. I am more interested in mythology, I guess.

And back to the topic: about historical accuracy of paintings on shield, I think there should be more shields with sign of kolovrat/sunwheel. It was really popular sign and We can see only one shield with this painting amongst a lot of others pictures that are not even related to any of the slavic symbolics. You should also think about symbol called "Hands of God"

Also think about swastika. Dont try to be politically correct - swastika has over 10.000 years of history and never should be associated with Hitler and NSDAP.

P.S. Forgive me my grammar, I had a long break from practicing it :P

Wulfstan - lack of swastikas is painful for me too, but remember that Kievan Rus weren't pagans in 1066, and most of slavic symbols would be replaced by greek crosses and Byzantine icons.

But that couldn't mean that people didn't use them? Like the Vikingar even though they became christians, they still used pagan symbols such as wearing the necklace of Thor.

I agree with You. That's why I think Rus faction should be replaced by some more general, slavic one. But back to the topic - although Vikingr action take place in 1066 year I think we cant be 100% accurate about history - it would for sure destroy a lot of fun. Being precise would be fun if We would make some christian factions and I dont think that there is time for it, We have other problems to solve.

I still think that Rus need more kolovrats and swastikas :)

Btw. Dragomir arent You polish by accident?

EDIT: I agree with Slytacular.

There are already four Christian factions: Engle, Normanz, Rus and Goídil.

There is already a shield for the Rus with the "Swastika", also with runic-like symbols. Maybe, as pointed out, they should have shields emphasizing their Orthodox Christianity - or just neutral shields without religious meanings.

Well, in any case I beleive a pagan Wendish faction is in order; not saying that it's a top priority - but with the help of the community, a thing to aspire to in my humble opinion.

Also, Slytacular: The Scandinavians wore the symbol of Thor, probably to oppose Christianity - very few amulets of the hammer has been found from before the 9th century;
this could be interpreted as the above, an opposition towards Christianity, (although they coexisted). Etc. etc.

Not forgetting the Rus also has a Sun-wheel design.

On another, but not unrelated note... Syncretisim for the win!

Rus have sunwheels, not swastikas I guess. Or maybe I'm blind. Anyway, it would be a good idea to add some symbols of orthodox-christianity, for example:

(Orthodox cross)

(Church-Slavonic language)

Add crosses to the Christian factions and a banner of Thor to the Vikingar. :)
