Just saying, if we didn't know they filled their teeth, then how should we know how they did it? Certainly it's much harder to find any evidence of  medical breweries/plants used then finding remains of other things like houses, weapons, skeletons and whatnot.

Yes they did probably. I know for one instance Thuja wood could be used in that time (although probably only by Vikings who traded with Eastern merchants or who ventured to Slavic countries) to chew on, that sedates your gum.
