Steam 5x5 Keys solution

So much confusion around keys. The OP here seems to say that the old 5x5 keys were in the wrong format. Then there were 6x4 keys from steam which also did not work?
I myself got a F&S 4x4 key, which apparently should work, from Amazon and that won't activate on Steam either. There are a bunch of recent threads on that particular issue too. Someone needs to stop by and explain what's happening.

Really not so much confusion.
Steam 5x5 keys work just fine for Steam. The problem comes in to using those keys to get the game's non-Steam version and activate that. There is a converter for that specific situation linked in the OP.
Unrelated, though some have posted here and needed to be directed elsewhere, Steam began distributing 6x4 keys which were not in Taleworlds' system for multiplayer verification. This has been fixed as of today, 11 April 2012.
As to your specific WFaS problem, did you buy your game through Amazon directly or through a re-seller? Is it the international release (current) WFaS or one of the older versions? You should likely take discussion of this to the WFaS Support section to keep the confusion down as this, too, is unrelated to this problem this thread deals with.

I mentioned Fire and Sword but the problem occures with Warband as well. This seemed like the most active thread.
The purchase was from Amazon and was the M&B bundle. I emailed Paradox and Talesworld support. No reply yet though.
