A Brytenwalda "Let's Play" series
« on: October 27, 2010, 05:09:32 AM »
Howdy folks,

I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with the idea of 'Let's Play' videos, so I will explain briefly what they are.  A player records their gameplay (and their own commentary whilst playing the game) and then places the videos on the internet for others to view.  I prefer Youtube for my videos and my current and completed LPs can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/user/elderjames

The reason for this post is simply to state that I am intending to do an LP of Mount and Blade: Warband featuring specifically the mod Brytenwalda provided that those who have worked on putting this mod together are amenable to it.  And to ask if there was anything the mod team specifically wished me to mention or show to my viewers in this mod.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Well ideally it will tell the ongoing story of one man and his army leading the Britons to glory.  Although chances are I will get my face staved in quite frequently before I get there. But yes, with any luck there will indeed be some epic battles and sieges.  Some of the new scenes are just so amazing that I'd like to show them to others so that they might become interested in M&B:Warband and Brytenwalda.  Too few people know just how awesome this mod is.

I'm amenable  :)

Showing scenes will be nice, and maybe do one of the new quests if there's time for that.

Well I'm hoping to record a full playthrough from beginning to at the very least starting up the player faction.  And I will certainly show off some of the awesome scenes you guys have created.  As for the quests, well the only one I know how to do for certain is the one to get Hrunting.  Is there a list of all the new quest starters and their locations?  If not, I'm sure I can find a few by stumbling across them :)

Hi Castellan.

I checked out your channel and it seems you have a talent for this stuff. I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with!

I also checked it out but fail to see the point.

Why watch someone play through hours of a game including loading screens  (Dragon Age for example)specially when he does EVERYTHING you'll do yourself in the game and not just a  test of the game. Looks like a massive spoiler to me...

That's the point of Let's (as in us) Plays.

When do you think the Brytenwalda Let's Play will come out Castellan?

There are people who watch these apparently. I think its more of an advertisement for a game, and not a bad idea. I myself wont watch videos to see which games I might like, I would read up on the game or check forums.

G'day Mate! Great to see another Mount and Blade LP out there.
Double great for it being Brytenwalda.
And Triple great for it being you doing it!

Looking forward to catching the first episodes when they come!

Well mate, Lets plays are pretty popular on the world wide web now. There are a lot of lets players with a subscriber count between 2000-20000 people, and many of them livestream regularly. I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say, but I can assure you that Lets plays are nothing new.

Some people follow these videos because they are stuck in a game and are looking for a visual aid in what to do next.  Some people want to experience the game without actually playing it (strange, but true), but I think the majority of people who follow 'Let's Plays' only watch LP's of games they have already played. They want to see how other people handle that third level boss that took them an hour to defeat.  They want to see which path other people take when the storyline splits. They want to see which of the 108 possible companions other people use to make up their six man party.  They even want to see just how many times other people fail during the course of a quest/level/battle.

That said, 'Let's Play' videos aren't for everyone and chances are you won't enjoy an LP of a game you have never played.  But I do recommend you at least take a look at once particular LPer on Youtube.  He's done quite a few games.  With luck he's done one you've already played.  Watch a few of the episodes from the start.  If you still don't like the idea after watching some of his videos then I guess LP's really aren't for you.  But that's fine of course and you are free to watch or not watch at your leisure.

For those who are interested I will post in here when the first video is up and available for viewing.

Let's plays are a godsend to people who want to experience a game but can't afford it (like me.) It lets you see the game from an actual person's eyes and not from some walkthrough (there's a difference) and although it isn't as good as the actual thing, it lets you extract entertainment from a human level.

I'd probably make a couple LPs myself if I could actually afford more than 1 game every 3-6 months (and I figured out how to get a fraps like thing on my PS3.) I used to get 1 every 1-4 months but since the recession that recently hit Australia my mum had to cancel pocket money so I had to work to get money (and it's not easy finding work at 11-13 years old.) But thanks to Let's Plays I can enjoy a game without actually playing it.
