FORMATIONS QUICK PLAY GUIDE:
Any time in-game that you have a formation form or "Hold," it will set up near the position that the player had when the command was issued: infantry to the left, cavalry to the right, and archers up front.

Whenever a unit first forms a particular formation, troops will spread out for ease of forming up.

Player troops start every battle in formation.

Formation key bindings are:
"J" for ranks
"K" for weapon-based ranks (shieldwall, phalanx)
"H" for wedge (the player ought to reassign the "L" for "Log" mapping)
";" for square
"Y" for no formation (undo formation)

Archers have no formation other than their starting line. They are put in formation for practicality's sake. Once unformed, they cannot be reformed (since the player can just use F1 to "reform" them).

Cavalry will not make any formation other than the wedge.

Charge (and Dismount for cavalry) will undo a formation. The player may Advance multiple times to have a formation move toward the average position of the enemy. Or use the order panel or hold-F1 to place them (or sweep them across the enemy for the cavalry wedge).

Pressing b allows you to 'release a fearsome cry' for 10xp*LvL, Use unknown...

This actually cost me 60xp when I tried it.
And what was your LEVEL???
So far it has cost me 10xp at LvL 1, 20xp at LvL 2, 30xp at LvL 3 (though three might have been miss read due to needing to level up a skill and LIVE as soon as I got out...)

Why nobody read notes>game concepts in game

Battlecry add life to your men, and they fighy most and best.
I have.  But discovered it accidentally when I mistakenly clicked that button instead of another. Love the history; made me understand more of the era depicted by the mod.  And after reading them all, I now consider myself an "expert" on the history of Saxonic Britain. lol

Ah, I learnt that from one of my fellow Mierce lord

I want to make a strong melee/leader character that still is able to move around rather fast. Is there any build tips up to say... level 10 or so? And also, what does all the new character creation options really do? I know what the old ones does, if those hasn't been changed as well, but the new ones? Does the birthplace matter? Like... is an irish better at some things than maybe a briton? You catch my drift

What start location would be best to start up one of those characters? Just quote in everything you can think of that I might be able to use. I've tried to figure out some of these things for myself, but it's just too huge  so I thought a combined effort would come in handy ^^

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Also, for the wandering hordes of marauders out there; should you pass through the kingdom of Crafu, make sure that you stop by the city and buy iron! I usually buy each stack for around 190-290 and then travel to the brown kingdom on the northernmost tip (or southernmost tip if you've spinned the map around to have it correct compared to a real world map) of the map, to the kingdom of South-Seaxe. Sell the iron there. I usually sell them for 390-460 there, and thus make a reasonable profit. If you're hostile towards Crafu, or simply doesen't care about your honour and reputation with them, force the peasants to give you supplies as well. They give up pretty decent loot. Just an extra source of income if you don't find any roaming bands of random bandits worth attacking for loot.

Does anybody know what should the guard : prisoner ratio in salinae be? I'm trying 1 guard for every 2 prisoners. uards are max tier soldiers - Britons, Saxons and some other

Is there a way to use formations, some tweak, on custom groups during battle (meaning other than infantry, archers, cavalry a fourth group for example we call "companions").

I can create this custom group but no formations is possible in-battle, that would be a great help during big field encounter !

Any tips on besieging towns would be nice. A town with a garrison of 650+ troops and only 1 siege ladder is a toughie.

Step one: Spies, get one inside and poison the well before you attack

Step two: Have a dedicated assault force of your best armored, highest level troops - huscarls and well equipped companions.

Step three: Bring as many men as you can lead, to soak missiles and help even the battle odds.

Step four: Assault! Park your mass of generic infantry near the base of the ladder so they draw missile fire from the defenders; Place all your archers several paces behind the infantry and pack them tightly; Send the assault force up the ladder - once it clears the choke point at the top, then order the infantry in. If all the infantry gets inside, have the archers follow you in and place them inside someplace where they can shoot but don't block the movement of the melee troops.

Optional Step five: Watch how the battle progresses - if you hit another "choke point" where the defenders are killing lots of your guys, order them to fall back 10 paces a couple of times and then charge again. Usually this only happens when they have a couple of good troops at the top of a stairway or at an opening, fall back makes them pursue and then you surround and overwhelm them on the charge.

Pretty much never fails, although it is harder on some maps than others and can be very painful facing lots of the welsh bows.

You can also really besiege a town/castle after sending spies after spies and poisonning food stocks many times. You'll see how many days of food they have left, just manage to low this the more you can (you'll need more than one spy for this since he'll be certainly caught after two times).

After that, just besiege them without attacking, they'll come out of starvation and fight for their food  Just prepare your best troops first in line. You'll crush them wave after wave like this and the garrison will lower after some waves (last time i had waves of 80 fighters coming out, arround 700 inside).

The "only" problem before was morale !! With 1.21 version of Brytenwalda, big parties had enormous morale drop every day. Besieging for a 2 days was killing your morale and gave you desertion.  That was with 1.21 version of Brytenwalda, i haven't try with 1.31 now.
