In one of my textbooks from school it said that a person who was strong enough to pull the longbow to a high extent and let loose the arrow can kill foes instantly. It also said that a long bow arrow, fired with enough strength, could go through an armoured knights leg, into the horse, out the horse, into the other leg.
The power in the game is greatly underated.

Oh, yeah, sure, maybe if the armour the knight was wearing was just chainmaille, and if he was about 30 metres away.

Doubt it would even do that.....

--- Quote from: Gerald of Wales ---...in the war against the Welsh, one of the men of arms was struck by an arrow shot at him by a Welshman. It went right through his thigh, high up, where it was protected inside and outside the leg by his iron cuirasses, and then through the skirt of his leather tunic; next it penetrated that part of the saddle which is called the alva or seat; and finally it lodged in his horse, driving so deep that it killed the animal. Swordmaster:
Well, Mongolian Bow (or Shortbow) has a range more than 250 meters. I think that Longbows have longer range than it.

A longbow can send an arrow with the right head through an oak door...I think they did it on mythbusters. Seriously powerful weapon.
OP: Sure, but on the other hand English archers didn't aim, they just fired in the general direction of the enemy and relied on the sheer number of arrows to be that deadly, something we don't have the luxury of.
First Citizen:
Exactly, longbows need to be used en masse for them to have the propper effect. As a stand-alone weapon, the longbow is (sometimes) overrated. It was the sheer number of arrows which proved devastating.
At this stage in mount&blade, for the size of the battles currently represented, to make bows more powerful would seriously imbalance the game without necessarily being more realistic.
