Midgets288:
Are there instructions on adding this into a mod?

...right in the OP, in fact.

Papa Lazarou:
Thanks, Caba`drin - that one slipped off my radar.

--- Quote ---I would love to use your mods, but one thing about them really prevents me from getting into them; your stances.
The problem is most of your references for sword combat (Not just in this video) seem to be taken from dueling techniques used by reenactors. All of these overhead stances weren't really used in combat, especially with a shield. Shields were used for parrying, blocking, & quick thrusting from behind your cover. You would never chop and slash while using one, it defeat the purpose.

From a top youtube comment on your spear & shield anim video...

--- Quote ---I don't hate those animations, tho I think the stabbing with spears should be more like the native or at least maintain the shield up, no one would use a spear putting the shield by the side aiming for the stomach... as for swords it's acceptable, but not good...

--- Quote ---Romans and Greeks would use the stabbing after a shield bash, it was a tactical stance, they would not cast it aside, simply because it would be a dumb thing to do, altho it certainly is easier to stab like that, military training teaches that not the easier way is the best...
They would also aim for the neck, not stomach... As for a two-handed spear stab it would be just like the animation...

I would like to see a more realistic instance for one handed + shield, these animations are perfect for two-handed swords and stuff, but bad for polearms, and shield + spear or sword... And sword alone... The stabbing with shield + sword is weird, and for spears it's unnacceptable, I'm currently playing Floris, I would really like to see some changes on these things =)

Anyway, just giving feedback as the mods / devs from Floris sent me here for such...

Papa Lazarou:
Thanks for the feedback but I'm afraid I probably won't work on this mod again.

Here's my reasoning about the specifics, if you're interested:

About shields, I somewhat agree that they should not be dropped during attacks, but for the game it's necessary. In Warband, characters are vulnerable while attacking, so the animation needed to show that. As for thrusts to the stomach, if I remember right, the stab does actually extend out to shoulder height - I animated most of my attacks to aim for the shoulder since that gives the greatest reach.

For polearms, I used a circular recovery movement so that spamming would at least look physically possible. The game allows you to spam attacks from the same direction rapidly, and the fastest way to do that in reality is to circle the weapon around your head. It might not be the best solution, and I did have other ideas, but that's what I went with in the end.

There are things I'd change about all the animations in my mod, and the polearm animations are the ones I'm least happy with. But a lot of my decisions came from limitations of the game mechanics - if you look at the start of the thread you'll see that those limitations were the reason I started the mod.

And for the record, I didn't take references from reenactors  :P  My designs came from the game mechanics and my own (limited) knowledge of European martial arts.
