So how does this game compare to EUIII? Opinions?

Compare and compare, both games are fantastic. CK2 has a fresher feel to it, and the entire focus on persons and dynasties is always nice. I find CK2 deeper than EU3, but EU3 got a better trade and production system (CK2 got nothing like that, except for cash farms that you buy with money).

Seriously, buy CK2. Or try the demo. The demo is essentially the full game except you can only play for 20 or so years and you can not save. You can also only play 4 factions. Of course, you can easily glitch your way past the 4 faction thing (Just after you press play, chose another faction and you will play as that instead), you can also mod your game to start [insert number here] years earlier and then play all the way until 1086.
Best demo of the 21st century.

Go for broke, try and take over every single province in england, regardless of the peace they're offering, so that you can install your own vassals. If you only take the south, you'll be stuck with strong northern duchies.

Is there any chance I'll run out of troops? Harald seems to get national levies as King of England, I gather, while I'm restricted to the gradually dwindling fuckforce William starts with.
First, let the two of them fight. Then sit in the south continuing to watch them fight. Avoid decisive battle and siege everything  until one of them is fully gone, and the other is weakened. Even if the norweigans take over, you'll stay fighting your war against them, so really just worry about keeping your troops together and sieging everything.

RE: Untitled- It's scope is far less than that of EU3 (only Christian Europe), but for waht it does, it's still a great game. Far far far more character focused, it goes into more detail with just about everything, but completely ignores lots of aspects eg. trade, economy, etc.

Okay. What kind of time span are you talking when you say wait?
"When the castle falls, all those inside will be put to the sword. Your herds will be butchered, your godswood will be felled, your keeps and towers will burn. I'll pull your walls down, and divert the Tumblestone over the ruins. By the time I'm done no man will ever know that a castle once stood here." Jaime got to his feet. "Your wife may whelp before that. You'll want your child, I expect. I'll send him to you when he's born. With a trebuchet."

None specifically. And you should be sieging the entire time. Just make sure you avoid decisive battle until both your opponents are severely weaker than you.

So, the Mongols arrive and I'm in Persia. Shitscared right? Right?

Nope. Half of the Mongol Army just turned aroudn and pledged alliegance to my heir. My guy dies days after that and suddenly I have 150 thousand free troops to throw around.
Hello Southern Persian states. I'd like to have a talk to you.

This is most probably a bug. I still have no idea of what causes that.

His prestige is pretty damn low for a king.

Who's is?

Could anyone hold duchy of Edessa or Antioch more than 10 years after first crusade?

Well, Denmark has held Jerusalem since the first/second Crusade, as well as a couple of surrounding counties. In fact, the King of Denmark is also King of Sweden and Jerusalem. In my game anyway.  :P

Pledge allegiance to the Byzantium Empire as Antioch, strike quickly and decisively via mercenaries. I managed to form Syria and conquer all of Northern Africa that way. Then again, I do tend to throw my allegiance around any time a serious threat arises.

There's also a map mod called Umbra Spherae or something similar that's looking to create the entire Old World/Euroasia. They've got some seriously awesome work going on with the Japanese and Chinese provinces right now.

Also, if you mod bookmarks to start at the year 50 or something, everything starts fragmented and with a little bit of modding, you can create your own ruler and carve out a dynasty in any part of the current map.

How do you even get it to start at year 50? Whenever I add in a bookmark that starts year 50, it won't go earlier than 1066.

In defines.txt (not .lua) change the start date to whatever you want. You can also change the end date if you want too.

Though I would put it in a mod folder so that it doesn't **** up your checksum for playing online.

I think I'll wait until I can get this a bit cheaper, but I'll definitely keep an eye on it. Thanks for the recommendations guys.

Apparently it has to do with me playing Zoroastrian. The game kind of went WAT DO when the mongols arrived against a type of ruler that should never have existed.

The Khan had his invasion planned in the slightest of details, his men knew everything about the lands they were going to invade, they had books that were several hundred pages long on the kings of the most powerful realms BUT one thing was wrong when they arrived:
Persia was Zoroastrian.

The Khan was in panic, he clawed his eyes out and threw himself off a cliff! His men were also confused, what is this religion? Should they kill everyone? Why did their Khan just do suicide? Who is their leader now? Maybe these Persians are nice guys? Maybe their King would make a good Khan?

After a few hours of discussion they joined Persia.

Is that an accurate description of your events, Ektwp? ;) The Khan probably did not die, but I took some artistic licenseEA with that.
