I have two questions.

1. I was told by a friend that in the game, you can become like a king yourself/leader of your own kingdom, instead of making an oath to a king. How do I do that?

2. Is there a way to fast forward the traveling I do, instead of watching my guy ride his horse on the map very slowly?

1. To become a king yourself you need to take a castle without being under oath, there are other ways aswell. If you want those and for them to be more in depth go look at the single player manual stickied on this board. It gives great explanations on these types of things.

2. To fast forward traveling press ctrl, then press space making sure that you press ctrl first or else your guy will just stand there.
Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.... and keep your frenemies as well-paid lackeys so that they're within easy reach for execution when they inevitably turn on you.

Starting January, 6, 2012 for a New Years resolution.

One more question of mine: There are no armies randomly scouting the map, but there used to be beforehand. What happened?

Looks like either 1.151 or 1.152 might have bugged lords and has them staying in their castles. The devs are looking into it, hopefully in time for the 1.153 patch that is in the works. EDIT - have you cheated your character level up?? If you've broken the level 63 level limit, you'll break lord behavior in this way.

If you have any more info or another savegame where this is happening--where you have not cheated your level beyond 63--add it here http://bugs.taleworlds.com/edit_bug.aspx?id=3959

Aside from the cheat menu is there any way to find the book sellers easily?

Getting mildly annoyed by them only popping up in the towns that I am visiting when I don't have enough money for the book I want (manual of arms still low level in this play through)

No, I don't believe so.

Diplomacy has the feature where you can ask travelers about book merchants.

Got a few more questions...

If I give one of my lords a bunch of troops, will the wages screw him? e.g. I saw one of my lords only had a 30 person army, so I gave him half of my Swadian Knights and a handful of Mamlukes, so now he's around 70. However, he only has one fief. Is he going to go bankrupt or something? Lose all those troops? Hate me and murder me while I sleep for dishonoring him?

"Eliminated factions" that aren't quite eliminated. I "eliminated" the Khergits (said so in the notes menu and they have no territory) but now it seems they've come back. They only have 3 or 4 lords and no land, but they'll occasionally declare war on me and burn all my villages I can't get to in time. What I've been doing is fighting them when we're at war, and not taking them prisoner to get rep up, and doing tasks for them when we're not at war, but now I have like 60 rep with a couple of them and they're still saying "Long live the king!" When will they stop loving their king who has nothing to provide them with? I read in patch notes that this kind of thing was maybe supposed to be fixed, but this has been going on for a while now.

This is in Native 1.152? If so, do you have a savegame you could upload to http://bugs.taleworlds.com/edit_bug.aspx?id=3920 ? (along with a thorough explanation of what happened, of course)

NPC Lords don't pay upkeep (wages/food). The money they get goes to hiring and training troops, that's all.

So, I've become a vassal of Swadia, got some reputation with some lords, a pretty decent army of 56 (defeated king's army of 120 twice). But now, I want to move on and get a castle as a fief and marry a lady. Whenever I want to marry, either the lady is not ready or his father/brother prefers someone else over me.

Build up your army some more and take a castle for yourself.  You have a higher chance to be awarded a fief you have taken yourself.  It helps to be friends with the king and your fellow vassals (but especially the king).  Help them out in battle a few times, and during a marshal campaign, speak to everyone after a battle or siege for small reputation boosts.  Once you get a castle and marry, throw lots of feasts to gain rep with the king and your fellow vassals.

Speaking of marriage, pay attention to the ladies's personality types.  Learn all 5 poems and recite them to the lady you're courting: you'll never lose rep by reciting a poem she doesn't like, but you'll gain the most by reciting her favorites.  Once you get her over 20 relation, she'll usually be amenable to marrying.  As for her guardian, curry favor with him.  More renown usually helps, as well.  Some ladies also like high honor; getting that higher will never hurt you.

Is there any possibility to change color of your faction AFTER you establish your own kingdom? I tried it with TweakMB, but it says that you can only change it before you establish it.

Custom Commander (and mods that include it) have this option. Otherwise, no.

It's actually Floris Basic 2.52 and some tweaks with 1.152, not sure if that'd be an issue? Should I post it there anyways?

Also, another question. Do companions always show up in battle, despite the order they're in on the party list? If not, will I still get their benefits if they're not in the battle (e.g. will I get +10 tactics if my tactics guy doesn't appear in battle)? All assuming they aren't wounded, of course.
