How do you change the names of the AI you pick up in taverns?

U know the people you pick up in taverns well how do you change there name and have it stay that way once they join you?

Changes with the troop editor only work with new games, to change the name of characters in an existing game would involve editing the save game files.

Most likely you need to open your save game file, search the character's name and change it. I can't tell you if that works as I've never done it, possibly there are several entries with that name so you need to be careful. And do make a copy of your original files.

You probably know more about this than me, but I think the name changes apply to save games. Changing it in-game doesn't work, even with edit mode on.
