    Computer bits

    Archonsod said:
It'd cost you more than thirty quid to upgrade the motherboard, so you'd still be better off going for an intel quad. Ram really depends on your OS, if you're still on 32 then anything over 2Gb is pretty pointless. If you're using x64 or intend to upgrade then 4Gb is really the minimum you should get, 8Gb is ideal.

I thought 32bit OSs could map out a maximum of 4gb of RAM? So unless he has a beastly GPU setup with 2gb of RAM, there should be room for another gb at least, as I can see it. I could be wrong though...

    PCI-E 2.0 backward compatibility?

Ah, sounds good to me. I think I'll pickup a new mobo & cpu next year sometime, when I should have a real job and some cash to drop on the pc.

Thanks for clearing that up for me!

    PCI-E 2.0 backward compatibility?

How badly are we talking? I'm replacing my old 8600GT, my plan was to spend a bit of money of the GPU and get a half decent one, so I can continue using it when I get around to upgrading the CPU/mobo.

    PCI-E 2.0 backward compatibility?

I have an Asus m2v motherboard, with a PCI-E 1.0 graphics port. My GPU died (see other thread) and I'm looking at a GTS 250 to replace it, so I can upgrade the rest of the rig later. However, will the PCI-E 2.0 card work in the 1.0 slot? Or will there be some hardware conflict. If anyone knows...

    Taking IB?

Aha! Well, goodluck. Get all your acronyms (EE, TOK,) done nice and early. How do you take IB and the state system at the same time? With the workload of IB here I don't know how you would manage it.

    Taking IB?

Where are you at in the program? What are your subjects?

I'm doing the 2010 november cycle, in Australia. Just in the middle of doing mock exams actually

    Tech problems - no video

The PCB looks alright. What else do I check? Is it worth blowdryering off the heatsink and checking the chip (or some other, less drastic means of removing the stuck cooler)

    Tech problems - no video

Aha true, except my old setup was a different socket, different graphics port and different memory - the problems of only upgrading every few years

I left the PC on overnight before it died - last night. Overheating could well be the problem, since it would have been on for hours after the gpu died instead of just the usual minute or two it had been before then. However, it was running on desktop, so if it overheated it was probably time for it to go anyway.

    Tech problems - no video

The card still gets power though, because the fan spins up and it doesn't have an external power connector. Could the chip still be dead?

I tried removing the cooler on it to get at the dust under the heatsink, but the heatsink seemed stuck to the chip, even after taking out the screws. Unfortunately I won't have access to another card until probably the weekend.

    Tech problems - no video

So I was playing HL2 on my trusty old desktop, when suddenly the video died. The computer was still running, but there was no video signal. I rebooted, only to be greeted with a beep code (1 long, 3 short) indicating that there was a video problem. Lo and behold, no video showed up on the...

    Initial impressions

Exactly the reason I canned Warband when it first came out. Without Aussie servers, the lag was incredible and made the game damn frustrating and now much fun.

Now there there are Aussie servers (with ping ~50ms!) the game is much better and actually enjoyable.

Boys who see porn more likely to harass girls

If porn made you more likely to harass girls, half of Australia would be rapists.

...oh, I just opened myself right up there, didn't I.

    man it got FOGGY

If it's overly annoying just wait so it passes quicker. Or wait in a town if you're worried about being ambushed out of the fog.

    Auto-block

Sure it doesn't require the same skill.

I reckon there should still be at least one official server with it on, for new players to get used to the rest of the game. Of course everyone would still have the option not to play on that server. At the very least it would give newbies a chance to play the game where they aren't pwned constantly and so be enticed to play the game.

    Custom banners for Warband

Looks like Timothy has put in a lot of hard work.

Are custom banners a feature that the devs are planning to be implemented? Possibly a system to track players could allow them to upload their own banners, since they already must have a table of keys. It would require a decent effort to set up, but it would allow tracking of stats etc. A nice dream perhaps

    Hitting Enemies From Horseback

Weapon length is probably the main issue. If you're using a cleaver, I doubt it will work.

If you're using a sword, scimitar and the like, and are still missing, it's probably a timing issue. Just practice. It's certainly not difficult for a new character to hit, it's a matter of the player being used to the game mechanics.

Practice on looters or at the training ground.

    Release Date

As a side not, will Warband be released as stand alone, or will it require an M&B serial as well?

    Duel Server Rules

Has anyone played on the duelling servers for Savage? I think it was a mod. Basically you had to challenge another player, who had to accept.
When you started a duel your health/ammo/whatever reset and there was a stock kit for both teams (since there were only two). Only players participating in a duel could damage each other, which meant no one else could interfere.

If something similar could be developed for Warband it would sounds like it would take a lot of problems out of duelling.

    Auto-block

It should stay an option. Sure it's easier, but not everyone plays the game for the absolute skill of it. Some people just want to hack in and have fun.

Personally I suck at manual blocking, and never used it in singleplayer. And yeah, it seems to be a challenge to learn. It adds an extra skill requirement to combat though, without being ridiculous and should stay. A shield still blocks everything in front of you anyway.

    Oceanic Servers play 8pm weeknights

Agreed. Deathmatch is getting stale with all the duelling, and kind of takes weapons out of context.
