The lord's hall would be the bigger building on the upper part of the fortress.

The fort would be overlooking the sea.

And nowadays (to give a good impression of the scale, note that the fort is probably mostly the part without houses here):

Fort entrance.

From http://www.scotshistoryonline.co.uk/burghead.html

Essential features:
- nuclear fort (two main parts, eventually a door between them)
- coastal fortress overlooking the North Sea
- series of banks and ditches, both beeing very important
- the banks (at least the last one) would get a wooden palissade
- large timber laced dry stone walls akin to the murus gallicus (see also scene props: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,89765.0.html )
- docks next to the fort's doors, with a few ships landed (it could be a good place for the goods merchant shop).

The Burghead bull: it may have been the symbol of the fortress, it could be featured on a standing stone in the fortress, or on doors, etc.
