The Masterful Suggestions

Yea a kingdom management of the level of Sword of Damocles would be something to aspire to.  That is one of my favorite mods and had a role in me starting modding.  In particular I would somehow like the strategic command of your lords to be something that would be highly necessary to your new kingdom surviving.  With the really high party lvls of Berserk this will already have a certain challenge to it.  Someone mentioned that the Holy See came knocking one time with 5000 troops.  Even I didn't know a full army got that big.  And the Holy See's lords aren't even the ones with the most leadership skill.  Griffith and the Seventh faction will make having a strong central army important as Griffith and the Beasts will dominate everyone else in autocalc.  Hmm on the other hand with all that going on maybe even maintaining a kingdom with Highlander's kingdom management would be a challenge after all.

Guess Leadership skills must be tweaked a bit...

Oh yes, about the newest faction: most Beast parties should be small in size IMO. What people would lead such mindless things anyway ? Apart from Rosine who led the Pirkafs, the Beasts have no leaders whatsoever, at least none is metioned in the Manga/Anime. However, if the Beasts are to form greater armies (numbering in hundreds), they would require leaders of at least human-level intellect and superhuman powers.

EDIT: a bit off-topic, but fun - OR: the alternative version of the Eclipse

Right now all the leaders of the beasts are giants.  If you have any suggestions of a smart type of beast that could lead them all anything would be an improvement.  Giants aren't know for their leadership skills.  Its pretty evenly split between all the beast types about 30 of each kind except cyclops and ogres.  The 5000 man party was an anomaly to be sure.  I think most kindoms have 4000 men and the odds of them organizing that many at once are low.  Adds a bit of challenge too as you have to slice your way through 4 waves of reinforcements.  I'll have to actually play around with the endgame to get it perfect of course once kingdom management is in.

Also you mentioned you had some characters written up in your fanfiction.  Unique characters for the mod would be awesome.

Hm... not entirely sure. I thought of a sort of Enkidu-character, maybe an overgrown Naga, a humanoid-shaped Dragon... or even some sort of angel/incubus, they are mythological stuff too afterall.

As for the companions, I'll have to find a paper first which contained their names and such (goddamit, why didn't I wrote it in my computer in the first place ?!). I think I'll find it soon though... maybe I can give you the list tomorrow if I'm lucky

I reckon the monster leaders should be like griffith's monster knights. part riding-animal-part knight. with a healthy mix of WTFMONSTER in between.
you know what I'm sayin'

Ah for griffith's seventh faction I definitely intend for them to transform into their half mount half humanoid forms.  At least for lords.  Not sure if your run of the mill apostle will transform like that.

A sudden idea just came to mind: would it be possible to set up a "Code of Honor", which builds up as the story proceeds and how Guts and/or the Player decides to do things ? Like:

Basic ideology (choose during character creation):
A) Slay Them All - your enemies never showed any mercy towards you in the past or if they did it was to use you to further their own ends. You have no intention to give them any sympathy either in return, or maybe on just special occasions. This attitude led to a state where you could rely on nobody but yourself, although it made you also the most badass guy around. You start with higher level and increased stats and equipment quality in almost every field, but negative Honor, bad relations with some characters and nearly zero Renown.
B) Destroy the Weak - during your travels, you sought challenges endlessly, seeking people worthy of fighting with. On the other hand, you hate and despise the cowardly folks who can't even touch a sword to protect themselves; such rabble does not deserve anything but serving as tools for the strong. The player can loot more and have more prisoners than usual and has better fighting skills, but negative Honor.
C) Overthrow the Mighty - on your long journey, you witnessed every filth and sin man could commit, but instead of turning away in disgust, you wanted to find a solution. As wise men say, the fish smells bad from its head; you realized that the pain of the masses is largely due to the corrupt men who rule over them. It was about time someone showed them who is the real boss ! The player is ambitious to become a hero of the people and lead them. Worse fighting skills, but better leading skills and more starting troops.
D) Get Along - wandering from battlefield to battlefield, you still have to realize what your goal in life is. Standard skills/equipment, no advantages or disadvantages, no influence on later "Code of Honor" points.

The Path to Revenge (choose after the Eclipse event):
A) All the Way to Hell - Griffith's treachery against you can not be forgotten, nor forgiven. You shall carve a bloody path through an entire world if you have to, but you shall take his head no matter what. Small bonuses to each Stats. If player prefers "Slay Them All" and goes by this decision, the bonuses are higher.
B) By Means of Cold Steel - while Griffith's actions were a great shock for you, you still recognize him as a former friend and a worthy warrior. As such, he must be defeated fairly, one-on-one, and reminded of his humanity before it's too late. But anyone who blocks your path towards this must be cast aside. Greatly increases Strength and Agility. If player prefers "Destroy the Weak", bonuses are higher.
C) We Are God Ourselves - Griffith betrayed all those who believed in him. First it was the Band of the Hawk, and now he's moving entire countries like pawns. But the people shall open their eyes, you shall see to it. You will make sure that this tyrant will be brought down by the very people he sought to control. Greatly increases Intellect and Charisma. If player prefers "Overthrow the Mighty", bonuses are higher.
D) My Own Way - everything happened so fast... you have still to settle the chaos in your head regarding Griffith. Instead, you turn your attention to other issues, including you and Caska getting through the dark times ahead. Player receives extra XP and Renown. If player prefers "Get Along", bonuses are higher.

...and so on and so forth. And the player could look up to his/her decisions in a little journal or something.

I found my papers ! Yay !

I won't describe every character I made up (yet), but have a look at these:

Jango the Slayer
You confuse me, Black Struggler. I can no longer decide which is worse: monsters who behave like human, or humans who behave like monsters.
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 31
Nationality: Kushan
Appearence: red-ish skin, tall and muscular, but somewhat thin body structure, a bit longer arms than usual, dark eyes, black beard reaching down to his belly, but very short hair. He wears an armor similar to that of the Daka demon troops, along with a robe which covers most of the armor.
Background: Jango never knew his parents; he was brought up by a Bakiraka warrior who taught him exotic martial arts and human values. By the time he finished training, he was employed by the Kushan to find and hunt down rogue Daka demons who broke out of the emperor’s control. However, as time passed (and the transformation method become more effective) he had little work to do regarding the demon troops, but words eventually reached his ear about devilish beasts (Apostles) roaming the land. Hell-bent on taking down monsters who threaten humanity, he started journeying the land to get rid of them...
Personality: Jango usually appears very calm and wise, one who thinks first and kills second. But once in combat he’s brutal and ruthless, though his rage is focused (so he won’t attack allies). Due to his teachings, he values human life greatly and refuses to murder mere humans, he just knocks them out at best. However, just because he cares for others, he doesn’t like having companions because he fears they would die, not being so experienced as he is.
Combat Style: Jango fights using a heavy iron staff, which he calls the „Dozen-Headed Spear”, because it can be fitted with various spearheads at both ends. Jango carries the spearheads hidden under his robes, and equips them on the staff depending on what type of head would be most useful, his selection including heads those make his staff into a pike, a poleaxe, a naginata, a flail, and so on. He can also detach the iron staff into two shorter pieces and fit them with seperate heads, fighting in two-weapon style. Lastly, he is skilled at unarmed combat, though nowhere near the extent of elite Bakiraka warriors.

Inquisitor Garrov de Balc
If I could make a wish, then I’d wish for seeing the face of the God the Holy See worships... so I can spit on it and tell him that he messed things up.
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Nationality: Holy See (Midland)
Appearence: a somewhat pale-skinned man of average height with blue eyes and shoulderlength dark hair, and a short beard forming a circle around his mouth, wearing a coat with reinforced leather armor beneath it, plus a set of heavy leather boots and spiky gauntlets.
Background: Both of Garrov’s parents were mercenaries, and so he was instructed in the art of fighting since young age. After the death of his parents, he grew to be a distinct bastard, lacking any sense of comradeship and sympathy, until he got himself mortally wounded. He crawled as far as he could, but lost consciousness. Fortunately, a bypassing Holy See retinue discovered him and took him along, despite the escorting soldiers thought it was already too late. The priest who attended him, however, managed to heal him by using elf dust which he usually kept hidden because of its „pagan origins”, so when Garrov came to his sense he told him his recovery was a godly miracle. From that point on, Garrov became a follower of the Holy See, eventually rising to the rank of Inquisitor. But as he climbed up the ranks he discovered how corrupt the Holy See was, and eventually started to develop his own way of worshiping God. The Holy See made notice of this, but due to Garrov’s overall obidience and outstanding achievements they ignored this. However, after a brief encounter with the re-born Griffith he decided to step off entirely, because he realized within a moment that Griffith just manipulated everyone, including the Pope. Since then he walks his own path with a retinue of loyal followers.
Personality: Garrov is a broad-minded, sane man who walks with both feet on the ground. He firmly believes in the existance of a higher power, but follows a different moral than the Holy See, believing men should recognize their own ways; only then will God help them in their struggles, as an unseen hand, and for this reason humans must cast aside all superstitions and supernatural forces from their path. He’s not hesitant to kill people, though he prefers to avoid bloodshed. If necessary, he’s an iron-fisted warlord, but can be also a caring comrade and a forgiving fatherly figure. He does what he sees right, when he sees right.
Combat Style: if he’s force to personal combat, Garrov uses a one-edged bastard sword with either one or both hands to fence, and also possesses a couple of pistols, plus a dagger just in case. He’s fast and agile enough to avoid most blows and pretty strong for a human, though neither of his attributes can be considered exceptional like Serpicio’s speed or Guts’ might.

Emilie
Yippie ! Lots of broken red dollies !
Listen you dumb son of a *****, I may be a girl but I kick your ass anytime !
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Nationality: Midland (?)
Appearence: a young and innocent-looking thin girl with long red hair reaching down to her hip and brown eyes. She dresses similarly to Sonia in civil, except she prefers trousers to skirts.
Background: Emilie’s exact background is unknown, but this troublesome brat had been recovered by Garrov during his journey and grew rather attached to him, probably considering him a stepfather. However, it seems likely that Emilie has a dark background, because she has a very violent personality split...
Personality: Emilie has two, very differing personalities: the first is that of a mentally retarded little girl, who, while lovely, is pretty careless, random and anything she says usually doesn’t make the least bit of sense. When treated badly, overlooked or threatened, her other personality springs forth: a bitter, hateful and very violent harpy who doesn’t hesitate to harm or even kill people without regret (though she can still get along if she must). Fortunately, both personalities came to accept Garrov as their superior and listen to his orders.
Combat Style: if forced to combat, Emilie prefers to use a short mace with a spike poking out of its top. She uses the weapon more by instinct than actual skill, though, but she shouldn’t be underestimated, especially since if she’s tempered, she’s much stronger than a girl of her body structure should be.

Eh...I'm not trying to naysay, but I can't say this idea appeals to me, with these characters an all.

The first guy Jango the slayer sounds awesome.  I could see him tying in with Gutts to remove the demons nicely.  And the second guy seems like the type to join Gutts as well once he understood him a bit.  I'm not sure where I could use Emilie.  You've also reminded me that I should redo the Daka's armor quite a bit.  And I want to create those super-muscular unarmed Bakiraka warriors.  What would be the best way to add them to the Kushan army?  Their fists wouldn't be hard I would use an invisible blunt weapon.  I'll see what I can do to mix these characters in with Gutts when he starts his own kingdom.  Alternatively they could also join the male/female choice after they decline becoming an apostle.  They would need all the help they can get.

As for the code of Honor it would be difficult to tie something like that into Gutt's decision because of the way quickbattles always play out the same way.  In the end it would be more of a menu choice wouldn't it?

@Danny-Q: I can understand people who don't like the idea of having non-canonical characters involved in the story, nothing wrong with that, it's just that our ways of thinking differ. I'll let Berserker Pride sort out who he needs or doesn't need, that's the best solution I guess.

@Berserker Pride: I made the character of Emilie more of a comic relief character back then who sticks by Garrov's side, and eventually develops a love-hate relationship with Isidoro, until finally her two personalities merge and she becomes normal. I admit that in battle she would look a bit out-of-the-picture, and even in my original writing she rarely used her mace, and just to discipline people who annoyed her (she wanted to seriously kill a molester once though, but Garrov told her off once she beated the guy half-dead).

I agree on re-making the Daka armor, currently it's not the best (though it's still fun to face those guys).

Hm... I originally thought the "Code of Honor" would've been something to depict the character development of the hero, with effects those influence the entire gameplay, including character relations, kingdom management, personal stats and even some events. But it's true that it would require a LOT of work.

PS: I have more characters I could describe in detail... a hysterical twin couple who raped each other, an Apostle under the age of 12, a masked interdimensional traveler, an inventor obsessed with constrcucting weird machines... stay tuned

Nice it all sounds rather indepth.  And I would like to start seeing more original stuff in the mod anyway.  That is the whole purpose of the second story arc.  The Gutts one will more or less stay with the manga storyline up until I run out of chapters of the manga.

You gave him a Naginata as part of his personal weapon in the shape of a complicated wankstick, why? Since when are jap weapons something you see in Berserk? (you could have at least went middle-eastern in his choices since he was amongst the Kushan)
It's stuff along those lines that leaves a character with fanficOC stamped on thier foreheads.

He doesn't have a naginata he has a staff with various heads on it.  Try not to overreact.  A naginata head is extremely similar to a glaive head.  Simply a broad heavy slashing blade attached to a big staff.  He could have called it a glaive head as well.  In the end I can edit all the weapons as I see fit anyway.  He probably called it a naginata because the Kushan are more eastern and he didn't want to call it a glaive.  I can't think of what the Indian version of a glaive is can you?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Indian_m%C3%AAl%C3%A9e_weapons
I wouldn't have went with such a weapon in the first place, the head switch is too gimmicky and not particularly effective compared to a normal weapon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Weapons_in_Hindu_mythology
more stuff to look into for some inspiration.

Damn that reminds me I need to get a Kukri ingame.  They are one of the most badass cutting weapons.  My dad had one it was way better than a machete due to the angle of the blade.  You could take a man's arm off with one of those.  I should ask some people to start modelling these indian weapons.  Right now the Kushan have too arabic an armament.

Found a description of a Pata on that page.  Good find with that page Danny-Q
A Pata (Hindustani paṭa पट) or sword gauntlet is a bladed weapon of Mughal period India, much like a short sword, except that the blade is integrated in a gauntlet.
The Rajput warriors are known to have used this weapon very effectively during the Mughal period. They also developed variations of Pata with matchlock pistols adjoining the handle too.[citation needed]
Not sure if I'll add the second part but I already have a mesh of this sort that I am using as an evil soldier weapon.  A little editting and boom Pata.  Come to think of it Eric used one of these in the movie Willow.

Berserker Pride spoke correctly, the Bakiraka use a lot of exotic weapons, why couldn't at least one of them (who even roams the world freely and witnesses cultures other than Kushan) use glaive heads attached to his staff if he wants so ? On a different note, it is unlikely that such a variable weapon could be made in-game with all the possible heads. Maybe just 3 or so variations. One stunning (mace head), one anti-shield (poleaxe) and one bracer (pike), plus-minus a slasher (glaive) or something.

And the main trick is actually getting him to pick.  The ai tends to singlemindedly stick to the same weapons.  But I suppose he could come with all three weapons and the player can choose for him.  Actually he will swap between a lance verson and a slashing version depending what I flag the weapon as.

Zero renown? Because no one knows what you did because they are all dead? Sounds stupid. No offence inteneded. Killing everyone you see would at least give some rumours. I'd think such a killer would be known.

The code of honor sounds interesting and it would add flavour to the mod, if it can be implemented.

The new fiction characters are certainly well made (especially the first one)! But I myself prefer the original characters of berserk, some might or not like the new characters, but that is the mod maker's decision to add or not the new characters.

EDIT: It seems I have encountered a big problem, in the Batzuzo duel, I don't take damage neither does Batzuzo... so the duel never ends and I can't continue the story forward. Help would be appreciated.
