Hmm, well I was thinking more of like, Kingdom of Sicily, The Venezian Empire, The Papal States, Kingdom of Lombardy(Lombard League) and The Holy Roman Empire and possibly no more faction.

How large was this faction?

Mandrake83 (sorry I posted it before you) in Italian Forum posted this chart to explain the political situation:

You can see Ferrara Duchy in cyan between Papal State, Milan, Venice and Florence.

Ferrara was at start a feud of Pope because Venice's threat, and saw Venice itself as a natural enemy. Soon became a strong cultural, economical and militry power until 1598. Was in Lombard League too from the very beginning. However, because geographical position and strong ambition, Estensi sometimes went out to papal sphere of influence, looking for expansion (and sometimes went in war against Pope itself). At the end of XIII century Ferrara territory cut Italy from east to west. It was a little but powerful country, with strong cultural influence and good military power, often allied with Milan, Florence and France instead Papal State.

I think, that a good solution for don't have no more than 5 faction,is to take out Kingdom of Lombardy(Lombard League) and The Holy Roman Empire, and make Guelf(Papal supporter comunes) faction and ghibellins(Imperial supporters).Because in this period since the arrive of Carlo d'Angiò,The Holy Roman Empire was ruled by the King of sicily(Svevi).

actually in the 1257 the king of sicily was Manfredi the son of Federico II, but in the HRE there was the inter regnum, that means that there was no emperor...

Ok. I was thinking about the 8 major factions showed in that chart because the intriguing historical period and differences between those factions. Keep in mind often some feuds was in war against their "protectors".

But you have to choose, so tell me and I will going to work.

Rathos, do you need help with scripts or do you want some weapon models? I have some old mods, that have a lot of southern European equipment and it shouldn't be difficult to get permission from their authors. You should also check mod Battle of Siccily - it's set in the late XI century, but there are also some good models.

PS: Posted also in the other thread.

Venice had not so much possessions in the mainland until XIVth Century, so this map is not from 1257.

Take care!

Dunno if this is still the place to post this but again maybe these can be helpful.
Remember Lombardy to be more divided than it looks.
