its it seems poorly put together or my spelling is off, i dont give a ****,
its 4:29 in the ****ing morning so dont bother me about it.
if you like it and it helped you leave a comment or die

There is nothing to be ashamed of with having your desktop cluttered with porn mate:wink:

Anyway...seriously nice and short guide here! Hopefully I can give it a go over the weekend...

And when you want to make something cool in your mod and use the MS, all of these things you done with the troops will be lost. No offence, I'm sure you wasted your time doing a tutorial, but this is just for minor balancing changes or whatever. Not working for a real mod.

well who said that this is for mod making? It could just be called tweaking right?

This is very useful. I can't really imagine doing troops for twelve factions with module system when so I just added some new troops with it and edited them with troopeditor. The problem is that I'm going to ad many more troops... Or was, with this I can do it without losing all my progress. Making troops is faster and it's still possible to use module system with this, nice.

There was a tool that exported the data from the map.txt to the MS for Thorgrimms map editor. A tool like that for the troop editor would be grand.

um no, none of your changes get lost because i already made copies of native and i keep my troops.txt separate with all my other modding tools.
Generally you are wrong sir.

im glad some people liked this and found it useful.
i have added 6 custom troops with this method now and it seems to work pretty well.
i did spend some time tweaking then, but generally there is no tweaking needed, just changing the names.
i have no idea how to use MS, so of course ill never make a real mod, ill just find backdoors and stuff to everything.
i actually made a mod, "age before horses" and it worked real well.
eventually ill start using the module system.
but the thing is i have added new items and stuff (from 3dsmax) and it works just fine

Good luck to you on your new mod, skiddledou. I just finished my first released mod and I used Troop Editor to organize my 67 soldier expansion of the original troop tree in Native. A lot of getting the equipment balance just right was tedious with this program but I would be hard pressed to come up with anything better. You have to figure out how to tweak the .txt file if you want to make new faces, though. Feel free to check out my mod for ideas.

Nice simple graphic tutorial, by the way. Much better than most others I've seen on these boards. Cheers.

skiddledou - thanks for the tutorial, I added a link to the first page of my troop editor.  I agree with others that using the module system is more powerful and for some changes it is easier then editing text files.  However, there are many people who may be interested in only doing text editing, so the editors and guides like this are very helpful.  I may get back to working on the editor at some point and add support for the face codes and other stuff, but now that I know the MS and I'm busy with star wars its become a much lower priority.  thx

While you're here HokieBT I'd like to personally thank you for the troop editor. If it wasn't for that I'd have never started modding in the 1st place. High fives, cheers, and a round of drinks on me.

thanks hookieBT.
im making a whole troops revamp, im also adding about 10-20 COMPLETELY NEW troops with this method.

Each time you change a troop press update and then when you've finished all the troops press save

Have you got any tips on recruiting your newly made troops?
I've got some I've made for custom settlements, but would love to see them in native or another mod.
