You're really too kind. It's only half-done in that shot - I'm in the process of adding rivers, and fleshing out other areas of the map so it's not flat when you look around it - the deserts could do with some dunes, and the north is getting more mountains, and there'll be a bit more vegetation around the map so it looks more realistic. Then I can start on editing some scenes (Ideally i'd like most of the city of Grandwood to be made of wood - walls included).

Still a lot more to be done...   :)

I made the map for Sod V5 and Prophecy of the Black Heart.

Map making is a slow and an imaginary devourer. But I like the idea of making a fantasy map based on realworld locations.
And if this is one of the first maps you've done, you have skills.

I worked my ass off for weeks with the sod 5 map, and I'm still not pleased with it.

Well, Asul (as the world itself is called) was mapped out over a year ago, originally as a DnD campaign that fell through. I've been developing the map and the lore since then, and thought it would make for a pretty interesting mod.

So really, it's just a case of carefully following what i've already done, albeit in 3d.

It certainly shows. It's very impressive.

The OP has been updated with the new map, and some new troop screens.

Thanks.

I like the update of the map.
The forests are a textbook example. Spread out, not to tight and no to many.
Nice!

Thank you. I think i'm pretty much done with the map now, save for maybe a few tweaks later on.

Glad you like.

The OP has been updated with some more information, as well as some screenshots (only a few for now, more will be coming shortly) & banners. Almost everything for the first four factions has been sorted - I still need to add the fifth, and implement the new map, and create/edit new scenes.

So, seeing as i'm just about ready to get around to doing them, what sort of companions do people like to see?

Knights mostly, from what I've seen in a poll.

it depends on who you're asking

Well, it's just a general question to everyone really - that way I can strike a balance between my own ideas and what people would ideally like to see - i've already got a few ideas (such as a few rangery types, some knights, adventurers and barbarians), but i'd like to hear the views of others on the subject.

The first post has been updated with some screenshots of Perianorean troops in battle (bottom of the screenshots section).

I've been thinking about changing the fifth faction to utilise more of the eastern part of the map (particularly the desert), and to add a bit more variety to the factions - a mostly mounted faction might provide more gameplay options than a mostly infantry based faction, especially when there's two of them already.

So, i've put up a poll to see what people would find more interesting - this is in no way a conclusive poll, and I may do the opposite, but hey-ho.

Sultanate, definitely.
Magorian. Duels of the walls of text.

Sultanate, definitely.

The Sultanate is definately easier to place on the map, but Lindale/Corwyn is getting a bit of support it seems...

The OP has been updated, as Valdholm has recieved a little facelift - I didn't like the armours they had originally, so i've switched them for something more suitable (look in their troops section for their new look).

Ok, so it seems that there's more space on the map than i'd anticipated, so I'm hoping to include both factions, which will fill out the map a little more, and add a little more variety.

All of the other factions are now done (barring a few minor changes, and changing Lord's equipment, but that can come later), I need to rejig the scenes (some got moved and switched - it's very strange being by the seaside in the middle of a landmass), i'm still working out whether to change the mercenaries, and the companions need working on, but that will probably come much later.

Cool, seems like the most interesting solution
