I'm glad to announce the first open beta of my mod, Roots of Yggdrassil. I decided to make this thread in the Pioneer's Guild to let people know about the mod, but I do have a sub-board for this mod (and my other one, Fury of Odin). Therefore, I would very much like it if you could keep most of your findings in there. ( Which can be found here.) Feel free to comment/report your findings on this mod in this thread however. Ack, I suppose I should tell you what it is first.

This mod is about the Norse people, or, as your average joe would know them, the vikings. (Although, strictly speaking they weren't ALL vikings...) Anyways, since I'm guessing not many people will want to sift through big blocks of text, I'll just pin the major things about this mod:

* No more horses
* No more crossbows
* Vilhjalmr's Permanent Death
* Bunches of new items
* Hunting
* Ability to have your own Kingdom (with Lords etc)
* More Blood
* New raiders
* New map
* Ten factions
* New mercenaries
* New banners
* No more health bar
* New archery reticule (dots)
* New animations
* New sounds (from More Metal Sounds mod)
* Some slightly altered dialogues
* Lord names changed
* Naval battles
* Ability to spar with your soldiers

And the factions are:
Diran Clan
Saexenr Clan
Borgr Clan
Brugr Clan
Serthr Clan
Valdyr Clan
Heithr Clan
Ulfr Clan
Bjarndyr Clan
Settlers

Kings/Queen: (Same order as factions, i.e. King Dirus leads the Diran Clan, King Ingvi the Saexenr etc..)
King Dirus the Ox
King Ingvi the Killer
King Ivan the Head-Hoarder
King Rangarr the Troll-Slayer
King Egil the Cruel
King Jorund the Strong
King Gorm the Coward
Queen Jill the Brave
King Thorugrim the Bear
(no king for settlers)

Troop trees: (Should be in the same order, not sure though)

Faction 2: (Saexenr Clan) These guys are deadly, plain and simple. They have highly competent bowmen, and their higher-tier infantry is well-armored and they all carry swords, a luxury few can afford.

Fyrdman > Garberend > Gar-Georosnotor > Gar Aeoling
                      |

Faction 3: (Borgr Clan) The Borgr Clan is one of the least advanced when it comes to fighting technique and equipment. Yet they're still very deadly. The larger part of their forces all have javelins, and en masse they will strike down anything that charges towards them. However, heavy infantry with sheilds make the javelins next to useless, and despite their skill of throwing a javelin, they lack hand-to-hand fighting skill, and wear light, weak furs as opposed to heavier yet more protective mail.

Georl Fyrdman > Thegn Gumrinc > Fyrdman Aeoling > Hundred Eolder
          |                                              ^
          > > > > Gie Rel Berend > > > > ^

Hundred Eolder - Senior thegn/leader of the warband (Garheap)
*These words are a translation of Saxon
Faction 4: (Brugr Clan) The Brugr Clan are proud to be the onse who set the record for best infantry throughout all their troops. Hand to hand, these guys are hard to beat. But their lack of archers and their heavy armor make them fairly easy pickings for skilled marksmen.

Ungmenni > Ungr Rekkr > Rekkr > Hersir
      |
Cnit Scytie
      |
Scytie Gumrinc
      |
Scytie Cempa

Faction 5: (Serthr Clan) The Serthr Clan isn't entirely outstanding when it comes to face-to-face beating your opponent down with an axe type of fighting. They have competent enough infantry, yes, but their real power is their powerful bowmen.

Sounds pretty cool, yeah. I'll give it a whirl, sooner or later. Which of those trees belongs to the norman-like faction?

The one that sounds French.  :razz:

The one with the Poigneurs and stuff.

44 minutes to go...

[me=MasacruTheArcher]is downloading.[/me]
gotta wait :sad: i will stay until late even though tomorrow , works !

Oh man all those features sounds great : New animations , new factions , more blood , new troops , no hp bar , death etc all those , no horses and new sounds , those are forming a great mod man  ...forgot HUNTING !

[me=MasacruTheArcher]had no idea that the /me command applies on forums ^_^[/me]

* MasacruTheArcher is downloading

Where did you get download link?  :smile:

Ruthven, are those sea battles courtesy of Mirathei? I can help you with fixing them, if you want.

A mod without horses means I'm going to download this straight away~

While we're waiting, would you mind giving a description of what all the factions are like/based on please~?

Excellent. You are a 'Grimmr Karl'  :smile:

Too bad the naval battles aren't working. But no big deal.
Yeah... Which is curious, because they worked fine in Fury of Odin. I'm certain I didn't miss any code, either. Yet upon entering a battle on water it's just a grassy expanse of land, albeit with a large amount of rivers, and then a short way outside the borderline it falls into nothingness...

@Massacru: [me=Ruthven]already knows this, and enjoys /me tags very much as well...[/me]

Kolba: Yeah, they're Mirathei's. I'm fairly certain I didn't do anything wrong though... Is it possible that it doesn't work because the boat parties are in between the invisible crossing type things?

Tzsak: Sure, in a bit...

D'oh. Hah, yes ofcourse. I didn't check them all. :wink: Maybe you could write on the Spoiler box which faction it is?
By typing: [spoiler=faction]

@Frisian: Yeah, probably a good idea. Here's some faction descriptions:

Faction 1: (Diran Clan) These guys don't have much special about them. They're very well armored, and use a large variation of weapons. They also have decent bowmen.

Faction 2: (Saexenr Clan) These guys are deadly, plain and simple. They have highly competent bowmen, and their higher-tier infantry is well-armored and they all carry swords, a luxury few can afford.

20 minutes to go! (By the way, I'm afraid I had to upload it on Filefront, I'm having repository troubles...)

5 minutes...

1 minute...

Anyways, I forgot to say this. There's new music that comes with the mod, but it's not being used in it. (It's in a separate folder titled "NEW MUSIC".) All you have to do is copy the music .txt file and paste it into the mod folder. (The other Music folder is just a backup, you don't need to copy that one.) Credits to Scouten for the music. However, this isn't 100% certain to work.

EDIT: Completed, waiting for redirect...)
