Common Problems & Fixes (Read Me First!)
« on: April 28, 2005, 10:13:56 PM »
Hi,

I'll collect the solutions and fixes to frequently encountered problems to this thread. If you are having problems running Mount&Blade please read this message before posting a question.

(1) I had bought the game but I lost my serial key!
You may have your serial key emailed to you from esellerate's support page:

https://store2.esellerate.net/store/support/Default.aspx

Look at the section entitled: "Finding your order number". Enter your email address in the box and click on "email order history" button. Your serial key will be automatically emailed to you.

Note - In order for this to work the email address you use must be the same address you used to purchase the game

(2) The game runs but fonts show incorrectly or some graphics are distorted.

Such issues are typically related to an outdated graphics card driver. You should download and install the latest driver offered by your graphics chip manufacturer.

(3) When I run the game it gives an error message like the following:

Code: [Select]
This application has failed to start because d3d9.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
You should install Microsoft's DirectX 9. You can find it through the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx?url=/windows/directx/downloads/default.htm

(4) What are mimimum system requirements for the game?:

You would at least need a graphics card with "hardware transform and lighting" and, say, 32 MB of memory (Any kind of geforce would do).

As for other min specs:

Processor: Pentium 766 MHz
Memory: 128 MB
100 MB of free hard disk space

(5) The game doesn't start at all.
There may be several causes for this

a- Various viruses and spyware may cause this problem. You may want to have a look at a program called hijackthis (Address: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/). Also check out this thread and this thread for further info.

6. Distorted/unreadable writing on the main menu on ATI cards
Go into the graphic card settings and change from performance to quality

7. Assertion Errors, Unable to open file errors and similar, especially after an update
Usually caused by a bad install. Uninstall the game, delete the folder and download & install the game again from the full installer.

8. Blue rocks and similar graphical wierdness
Open the configuration menu from the launch screen and switch the bump mapping option off

9. Activation Denied message when attempting to activate the game
Each key entitles you to activate the full version of Mount & Blade twice every 60 days. If you see this message, it indicates you have used both activations for this 60 day period.

10. Rainbow colours, graphical distortion, flashing screens
Open the configure menu from the launch screen and switch the render method to DX7

"To succeed in even the simplest platform game, children have to lock their problem solving into a tight cycle of observe, question, hypothesize, test. Curiously, this exactly matches the scientific method that education has been trying to embed in young scientists since the birth of science.” - Prf. Stephen Heppell
