SettingIn this mod you will play in Scandinavia, the centre of Northern Europe. Your actions will be take place in the great Nordic wars of the 17th century. You will fight the battles between the Norway-Denmark alliance and Sweden-Finland (Baltic Empire/Swedish Empire). This mod will include all from large battles with tactical warfare to smaller guerrilla battles with Snapphanes (snapphanar), bandits, deserters and rebellion the farmers who were very angry at the fighting factions.
HistoryScanian warThis was a war in 1675 that lasted until 1679, and was a important battle in Scandinavian history. The main fighting factions was Sweden and Denmark but Norway did a great effort on the Danes side and the same did Finland on the Swedes side. The war started with the Danish invasion at Helsingborg in June 29, 1676. Danish king Christian V brought 15,000 troops against a defending Swedish army of 5,000 men, which were spread out over the province. Initially the operation was a great success. Large parts of the local peasantry sided with Denmark and the outnumbered Swedish troops were in bad shape. Town after town fell into the hands of the Danes and the Swedes had to retreat north to Sweden proper. In a month's time only the fortified town of Malmö remained under Swedish control.
On October 24 1676, the Swedish king Charles XI marched back into Scania with an army of 12,000, forcing the Danes in the defensive. After a number of skirmishes the Danish army was badly beaten at the Battle of Lund. Despite gains by Gyldenløve in the north, the Swedish offensive of Charles XI tipped the scale. After failing to take Malmö and the defeat at the Battle of Landskrona the Danish Army in Scania was still not beaten, but the morale was definitely broken. However the Danes held the fortified town of Landskrona and was able to ship in more Dutch and German mercenaries and in July 1678 Christian V marched east to rescue the diminishing Danish garrison in the town of Kristianstad besieged by the Swedes. After facing the whole Swedish army on the plain west of Kristianstad Christian V opted not to battle. The war ended in 1679 when Denmark Capitulated, and The Swedes won back the territories Denmark had taken from them.
Swedish defeat at seaThe war was also fought at sea. In the Battle of Öland, June 1 1676, the Danish and Dutch fleet won a great victory over the Swedes, sinking one of the largest naval vessels at that time, Kronan. With the victory they got control of the Baltic sea. The Danes won another significant victory in the Battle of Fehmarn. The control at sea was secured a year later, when the Danish fleet, lead by Niels Juel, again defeated the Swedish fleet at the Battle of Køge bay, near Copenhagen. The Swedes lost over 3,000 men in this engagement, while the Danish only suffered some 375 casualties. The Danish success at sea hindered the Swedish ability to move troops between northern Germany and Sweden.

http://www.historyofwar.org/articles/wars_scanian.htmlThe Gyldenløve WarAt the same time as the Danish invasion on Scania, Norway launched an attack against Sweden, to force the Swedes to fight a two-front war. This war is named 'The Gyldenløve War' after Gyldenløve who leaded the Norwegian force.
Operations along the Norwegian-Swedish border were initially largely a stalemate, as mountain passes were guarded fiercely. Although a large contingent of 4,000 Norwegians was concentrated at Fredrikshald under the command of General Russenstein, it was nearly impossible to break through. The Swedish General Ascheberg had taken position at Svarteborg with 2,000 men.
In early August a Danish expedition was sent north to take the town of Halmstad and then advance along the Swedish west coast to seek contact with the General Gyldenløve. Charles XI of Sweden quickly rushed his small army to the west and defeated the Danish force at the Battle of Fyllebro. The Swedes then retreated north to gather more troops. Christian V brought his army to Halmstad and besieged the town for a couple of weeks but gave up and returned to Scania.
Despite the defeat at Fyllebro, the successful invasion of Scania allowed Norwegian troops to capture Bohuslän. During the winter of 1677, the Norwegian army was increased to 17,000 men, allowing operations to increase further. Gyldenløve captured the fortress at Marstrand in July and joined forces with General Løvenhjelm. The Swedes mounted a counteroffensive under the command of Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie, sending an army of 8,000 to expel the Norwegian forces. They were defeated by the Norwegians, and pushed further back into Bohuslän. At the same time Norwegian forces also retook Jämtland.
AccuracyThe mod will probably take place in 1676 but we are not sure yet. What we have decided is that the mod will take place in the time of the large Scandinavian struggles in 1660 until 1679 (as the Scanian war will be the main war). However we will not be 100% accurate with the use of guns and models. Anything from 1600 until 1690 can and will be used. All the other work such as naming the lords, heroes, leaders and towns, will ofcourse be more accurate.
Finland was at the time the mod takes place a part of Sweden. Anyway, we have decided to make Finland an own faction in the mod, because of gaming reasons. To make it clear in the mod that Finland is actually ruled by Sweden at the time, Finland will have Swedish officers, Swedish generals/lords and have a permanent alliance with Sweden. Only the lowrank officers and soldiers will have a Finnish outlook/uniforms. Finland will not have a king at all, and the faction leader will be Swedish.
Yes, it's true that Finland wasn't a part of Scandinavia, but they were very important for the Swedes in many ways troughout the war (taxes, resources, soldier reinforcements, ETC.), and
will therefore be included in the mod.
During the time the mod takes place Norway was also a part of Denmark, but not in the same way as Finland was a part of Sweden. Therefore Norwegians will have their own uniforms and mostly Norwegian generals/lords. Norway will not have a king though, but the faction leader will be Norwegian-Danish.
The Sami empire were not directly involved in the Scanian war, but is still included in the mod as a faction. They are simply just in the mod because they are a part of Scandinavia. They will be neutral to the other factions, and will not be greatly involved in the wars included in this mod. You can still lead the Sami empire on a conquest to rule Scandinavia, because it will be your actions that will decide the outcome of the war. Their main enemies will be the Russians (not represented as a faction). They will probably have a Samish or Norwegian faction leader.
