Who said anything about battles?  I am a duellist.  I enjoy jousting and other forms of one-on-one combat.  And I like that combat to be realistic.

Also shitty deal to the "CLOSED" beta. We open beta'd M&B, with our dollars no less, for years. It worked great for everyone! Please keep to the strategy.

Multiplayer M&B is like foreplay, entrees, tennis against a brick wall etc. It's good, but it's not the meat of it, at least not for me. My idea of fun is leading a challenging campaign against a dangerous foe, not having jumping headshot fps idiots running around shouting "pwnd".

Well, good for you.  As for me, since the moment I laid hands on Mount & Blade, I have fervently wished for the ability to spar with my friends.  The gaming world has never before allowed me to do so in a reasonably realistic manner, and I have desired it greatly for many years.

Multiplayer battles would be fun if they played out the way I wanted, but it's doubtful that they would. I suppose there would be a group of people who would want to play battles in a more realistic manner.

If you mean team players, count me in. I don't think lone wolves are going to survive very long in multiplayer.

Plus, how long are the matches supposed to be? If they're short, then the game might need to streamline the codes a bit more so people aren't waiting for all that long.

I am not that enthusiastic about a multiplayer module to Mount & Blade. Yes, it is nice and from a commercial point of view a sound decision but I expected something more evolved...

I would love to see more immersion in the single player campaign. More options, more roleplay, more depth. Random hero generation, lords that die, that can get poisoned, smugglers, complex political plots among the factions, within each faction, more factions, some of them countries other different entities...

Oh well, maybe for 2010...

They said diplomacy would be expanded.  I honestly don't think they could expand it enough.  It would be very interesting if Mount and Blade would someday turn into the end all medieval simulator, instead of largely being a combat game with some minor strategic elements.

Damn, I can't wait for matches between the forum. I can already imagine the Taleworlds Tournament where we deem who is the grand-champion of Taleworlds at the joust, at archery and at foot and mounted combat. Oh, the possibilities! And just imagine an EATRC multiplayer mod where one side forms a block of pikes and the other has only riders. A push of pike contest with the likes of Villy, D'Sparil etc. will be a dream.

Great to see the excitement about the expansion pack. We were very excited as well and looking foward to sharing the news with the community. :)

I see that there are some valid concerns. Let me address them briefly here:

-Multiplayer will not be the only new feature in the expansion pack and we`ll do our best to improve other aspects of the game.

-The main reason we wanted to include multiplayer is so that we can play it ourselves. :P You can be sure we'll do our best to make it fun. I hate exploits and unrealistic tactics in games as much as you, so we'll do our best to avoid those. We'll also no doubt have some sort of beta program so we'll get feedback from the players before any features are finalized.

-Players will definitely be able to run their own servers, though we want to have some official servers as well.

-Actually, our publishers have never interfered with our creative vision. The reason I opted for implementing multiplayer battles instead of focusing on cooperative multiplayer is because cooperative mp is even more difficult than what we are doing now (since you have to handle map movement, parties, various menu windows and everything else) while at the same time, it is much more restrictive. With the current system, apart from playing against humans, you'll be able to team up with your buddies against any number of AI opponents and play a cooperative game (albeit without the campaign aspect) so in a sense we'll have the best of two worlds.

-We are trying to be very careful to keep compatibility with the existing module system. (So far the only incompatibility is in module_animations) Therefore, porting will hopefully be very easy.

-Of course everything is not rosy and come out we are still at a very early stage and wondering how we'll overcome various hurdles. Compansating for lag is a particular problem, since the game allows you to become up close and personal with your enemies and observing your opponents moves and countering them is so essential. We are trying to be creative here and we'll adjust the gameplay if necessary, but there is only so much we can do and if you are on a slow connection or if the server you are playing at is too far your game may inevitably become somewhat sluggish compared to the single player game. We'll of course try our best to keep that to a minimum.

Anyway, thanks for your feedback. I am looking forward to find out how this will come out along with everyone else.

But you know what the sad part is going to be? It's the fact that the "Ultimate Champion" will be some guy you've never heard of.

Of course I don't know how good the people here are at all.

I don't think lone wolves are going to survive very long in multiplayer.

It all depends on whether or not the user can host and decide options.  I have had a lot of success in other multiplayer games as a solo player, if the server does not cater to the gang-bangers.
