I know many people who buy CD's because its cool to have original copys of metal classics =]
but as a kid I never had money to buy Cd's and never had any source to listen to them and check them out... that is why I was allways a cave man when it came to music untill the internet came along and napstar and kazaa and emule came to live... I think youtube does great for music industry it advertised music so people could check it out before buying the CD, I think CD's cost way too much... they allways did and probably they will allways do...
a good idea was to pay small fees for downloading the songs via the net like Itune does...
about good musicians rising up... its all about them selvs... if they are trully good they will succed - well known fact you have good earning musicians right now... rich musicians with good famouse music.

I'm proud to say that I buy every Blizzard game (except wow - dont play it) because that company managed to "deliver" and my heart and my wallet belongs to them... there expirience showed me that there games are well worth my money, and hopefully I could say the same for Taleworlds after warband, I love Mount&Blade and when Warband will get release I will 100% buy it via Paypal...
I think pirating did very good to the gaming industry and music and movies, and if you can't beat them... join them =] when all those developers will realize that... they will find the way to earn money without force =]
in the end if a person wants something he will get it... even in real life if u want a car... u can buy one or steal one =] what ever goes for you... each has its own pluses and minuses ya know...
