Fate and Free Will?

Slight generalisation?
Very much so, most the main polytheistic religion everyone thinks about with the titans, Zeus, Chronos and Oranos supports fate. The Egyptian relgion supported   free will and a decided after life. The monotheistic religions I refer to are Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Satanic worshipers. They all believe in the same god. They all support free will. The three main have opposing view on god's rules, prophets and divine plans. They all support free will and a decided afterlife. Satanic worshipers support free will, but believe they control our afterlives, fighting a "evil" god. The theologically logical choice is satanic worship, since you have control of your eternity and you can't die, because your already immortal.

If fate exists, then you can't decide on a position. If free will exists, then you can. Thus, you should believe in free will. There is no benefit to believing in fate if it exists, and even if there were, it's irrelevant since you can't choose it anyway.

There's no particular benefit in believing in free will either, unless you're capable of seeing the future.

The problem is, everything in the universe, from light to the electrical signals flashing through your brain, are made up of tiny elements which move according to set patterns, and thus can be predicted.

My entire opinion on those who believe in fate is based upon this quote that's (supposedly) from Stephen Hawking:
I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.

Trying to avoid fate while crossing the road doesn't aways help : http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=b46_1203288992

Other people seem to find order in chaos : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o5iitkB_nE

I suppose in a way I believe in fate. Everything that you are is built by your experiances and a lot by other people so in that sense we don't get any choice becuase we aren't just ourselves. Which sounds retarded but I can't think of how to phrase it right.
