Possibly, but nobody would get fired, unless your job has a no joking rule. A joke can still be funny, even if it - had it taken place - would not have been funny for those involved.

If such jokes are offensive to you, you must feel like this about every third time someone tells a joke.

Hardly irrelevant ot ill-evidenced, since I personally know people who have lost their jobs over just such activities.  When venturing into "sexual harassment" territory, aesthetics have no consequence whatever.  Everywhere I've ever worked has a sexual harassment policy that they take very seriously.  Just last week our newspaper had a story of a teenager who just wrecked his academic career and is facing criminal charges for sending photos of "himself" to a minor classmate, after she told him to stop.  Just like our little "drama."

So you can see, the real world does have something to say on the subject.

And your "Iran" comment seems to say that you don't believe a civilized country should have laws against sexual harassment.  Am I misinterpreting?

Not where I work or among the people I hang around with.  They don't make or seem to appreciate sexually-oriented jokes.  And in my workplaces, sexual jokes told to the opposite sex can engender what is called a "hostile work environment," and that can get you fired without much ado.  All of my direct reports are women, so there are some "humor" genres I simply avoid.

I enjoy a good joke as much as the next guy, just not in some catagories.

I must be suffering from empathy overload, since I seem to care more about the victims of such "humor" than than the rights of others to engage in it.  Still, I will not trample your rights in this area.  Though I do find it fascinating that some do not think I have a right to object and state my opinion.

I think perhaps he was thinking you were talking about the joke, not the actions within. I also think he may be implying that only places like Iran are run by moral absolutists (Or fools, as they are sometimes called), which is rather naive.

Humor is very subjective, I'll give you that. I'm guessing you don't laugh at Dead Baby Jokes?

You are correct, though I used to tell them before I had my own children.  Now I like stick jokes more.

There seems to be a misunderstanding here. I was stating that if something like this happened outside this forum, such as at work or school, there would be consequences.  The fact that it happened here in jest is not the problem.  I don't happen to find it funny, but I don't think it was illegal or wrong to happen HERE.  In bad taste, maybe, but that is also OK here.  I'm just expressing my opinion (which you may take potshots at whenever) and reminding folks that such activities outside this (or some other) forum are likely to result in an entirely different outcome.

You're missing a rather major point here.. that the sexual intimidation didn't actually happen. It's a joke about sexual intimidation, aimed at us, not the person who normally would have been intimidated.

A practical joke about sexual intimidation like this will not lead to making the act socially acceptable, or make people actually go sexually intimidate others (be it for the sake of a joke or not).

Most of you people are being assess, he has just as much right to his opinion as anyone else, especially since it's been clear from the start that he's not trying to have such atrocious humour banned. That's where my agreeing ends though, Sexual Harassment laws, especially in the states are the worst joke of them all made up by the silly PC crowd.

We're quite capable of exacting harsh vengeance on our own if we feel something is out of place thank you very much, where as I doubt you are.
