Game of Thrones - A mod based on the universe created by the famous bestselling American Fantasy novelist George R. R. Martin in the series A Song of Ice and Fire, the first book of which is A Game of Thrones.

Concept

The mod is being developed taking account of the first 2 books, what happens later is beyond our concern.
                 
The mod's story starts after the death of Renly Baratheon about 2 hours afterwards to be precise.
                 
Everything that happens after the point mentioned above is the mod team's choice, although we will try to be consistent with the books as much as possible.
                 
Everything that could happen afterwards could in theory happen in the mod.
                 
We have out own ideas, and only need other peoples' ideas for the mod in the form of finished products (models, scripts, scenes, etc.)
                 
The team is making this game because we love modding and realizing our ideas, not from the altruistic aim of bringing joy to other gamers in their otherwise difficult gaming lives.
                 
To sum up: The team is composed of highly intelligent trolls, who are uninterested in other peoples' opinions.
                 
In order for your own ideas to make it into the mod you need to achieve that level of intelligent trolling, in other words, become part of the team. Then work, work work and work some more on the mod. Thats the only way.
F.A.Q.
Q - How do I join the team?
[A] - This project is in the final stages, so we are looking for modders who can jump in and help out. We are currently recruiting in all fields, so if you have any level of skill whatsoever and think you can assist, please contact Lumos about what needs to be done.

Q - Will there be Daenerys Targaryen and will she invade Westeros?
A - No.

Q - Are dragons going to be in the mod?
A - Yes, on House Targaryen's banner.

Q - Will there be direwolves?
A - Maybe in the far future.

Q - Is there going to be the restoration of House Targaryen?
A - That is indeed planned, but we haven't yet decided on the details.

Q - When will the mod be released?
A - Certainly in the 21st century.

Q - Can you say how much is ready now?
A - The only thing we know for sure is that it's state of readiness is more than none but less than all.

Q - Will the mod be released in Russian or other languages?
A - Not in the first release, but providing different translations is a high priority. Those who think they could help with translations are welcome to contact us.

Q - Will there be magic?
A - Some.

Q - Will there be the Wildlings and will they have mammoths?
A - The Wildlings - yes, mammoths - maybe.

Q - Will there be this character in the mod?
A - All of the lords and knights are presented below. Maybe we will add more in beta and closer to the release.

Q - Is it possible to join The Night's Watch?
A - We'll think about it.

Q - Will your mod have multiplayer?
A- It is not currently planned, but if somebody decides to make it after we release the mod then yes.

Help Wanted Post

Here we will periodically place positions on the team that are open or jobs that are undone. As we are a community based venture, the continued support of the forums is one of our greatest assets.

Open Positions

- Sceners: We are currently in need of good sceners to help build the world the player
will inhabit. That includes villages, towns, castles and so on.

- Modellers: We are currently in need of someone who can design and create clothing for the women in the mod, from Queen Cersei to that one prostitute in Mole Town who is really good with a crossbow.

- Texturers: Experienced texturers who can jump in and start helping are preferred.

 
Features



Troop Upgrades:
The default way of upgrading faction units was changed. Now there are 3 levels - peasants, city units and castle units. To upgrade unit from peasant to castle unit you have to pay for the training and fulfil all the requirements. To get an elite unit you do all the same but the requirements are way harsher now. Therefore you will have free access only to the peasant line of units. It is impossible to upgrade units from one faction in another faction. There will be a loophole, though, but with certain requirements. They will be defined by the amount of achievements, relationships with the lords, completed quiests, fame and honor. The elite units belong to the city owner. A player can access them as well. You can hire mercenaries the old way or in the mercenary camp. Also you can hire a party mercenaries from the other part of the world.

New Tournament System:
One on one
3 stages with bets, your enemies are city elite fighters. And you can choose your weapon before every round from the following: axe and shield | two-handed sword | sword and shield | two-handed axe. If you win all 3 rounds, you will have an oppotunity to challenge one lord from the those who are in the city. If there are no lords, you can call the guard of the castle. Defeat doesn't have infuence on result of the winning of the 3 rounds, except the deterioration of relationships with the Lord that had been challenged. The winning will award you money and relationships increase.

Melee
Massive battle with only one round and a lot of bets.

Jousting
There are no bets, 4 rounds. Your enemies are the lords that are in the city or knights of the faction. They will be chosen randomly. Your prize is horse and gear of your opponent. You can accept a redemption ('+' to relationships with defeated enemy) or take the horse and the gear (huge '-' in relationships with defeated enemy). If you lose, the same happens to you and you will need to pay the redemption (sometimes the price is very high).
The AI has been fixed and bot won't chase the hero around the arena. The signal to start the battle is sound of the horn after the opponents take their selected places. If the horse goes down, horse change menu pops up.

Good night/morning/afternoon!

Welcome to the first dev blog of the new Game of Thrones modification developer team! With this first blog we won't be showing a lot of showable content. However we will tell a bit on what we have done in these first days, what happened and a small preview of our freelancers.

So, with Hunter deciding to stop leading the previous team. It was up to a new group of people to take it over and speed up progress. The leadership of the team was passed on to GoldEagle who took over the coding of the mod as well. After that comes for the scening me and Leon Royce. And for the thread and other community bussines is Owen who has been here already around for quite a while. Not to forget, also our two amazing freelancers Count of Flanders and ThaneWulfgharn. And of course credits to all the amazing people that have worked in the pass on this mod to bring it to the state it is now making us enable to continue it!

Thread and Steamgroup
Our first objective ahead of us was to create a new thread. Supporting our fresh start, and giving us controll so we can not only update the mod's thread. But also improve the lay-out. Something we have been working on since. Including the table for the factions and soon a new lay-out for the screenshots. For us a change of lay-out was important to give the public a fresh look on the modification.
However, at this moment we have not looked at the features yet that will be in the mod and the faction troop trees aren't updated either that are posted on this thread. However this will come to our attention soon and will be updated when we sorted it out.

For the supporters of the mod, we also decided to quickly make steamgroup. To keep everyone in their up-to-date on the progress of the mod. (Which will be showed here as well obviously) And everyone is very welcome to join it! Link: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/GOTWarband

A mess to be sorted out...
Obviously, we wanted to get started ASAP. However, we quickly realised that the state of the module, module system and overall files were a mess. On top of that, it was mostly Russian language. So at this very moment our coder is trying to sort out both module system and module. So we can soon decide what still needs to be done and what not. Including scenery, coding and modeling/texturing. This might take week or a couple of days. After that we can get all started with full capacity.

So what do we have to show at this point?
It's not a lot though we have something. And our appologies that it aint a lot though this first dev blog wasn't actually meant to show a lot of progress seeing it was so short hand on the take over of us and alos because we have to sort out a lot at the moment. However, our freelancers Count of Flanders, and ThaneWulfgharn have both already worked hard so we were enable to show two amazing armors which I'll gladly place here.

So with that said, we hope that our next dev blog will include more view on our progress. And more previews of amazing armors. However we can't promise anything at this moment! Once again our appologies for the lack of content. We do whatever we can to release the modification as soon as possible.

Good night/morning/afternoon!

Welcome to the second developer blog of the Game of Thrones modification!
In this blog we will be showing a couple of previews, a bit of information, and some other things that have to be said.

Everything together short said, last week (since Wednesday) it was mainly coding work and fixing that had to be done as said in the last blog the first steps. This all had to be done by our team leader Eagle, also our freelancers have been making some work, more of that is to be seen below. We also welcome new lads in our team!

Coding bits
So as we said last week, there had to be a lot of fixing in the module system. Starting with the fact that nearly everything was in Russian language brought in by the last team. So it was up to the coder to get it all sorted. I can say that Eagle has been working his arse off for you peeps! He has done the past week a lot of fixing in the module system. He re-named all the villages, towns and castles to the English names. And much more! A week ago we had a messed up module system, this week we have a nearly 100% clean module system ready to be worked with and expand on! So big thumbs up for Eagle!

The Freelancers and our new team members!
Of course our freelancers haven't been doing nothing. At this point we even welcome a new freelancer to our mod! His name is TheLoneWolf1 he will be helping us with modeling and texturing.

We also welcome two new developers to our team! Both Bloc and Lord Goodfella have decided to join us and help with the development of the mod. Bloc will be busy with modeling and texturing, and Lord Goodfella will be producing music for the mod.
Now for the previews, it will be limited, as I'll explain later with the reason why. Don't worry for now, it's for your own good.... Or not.. :smile:

Why aren't there more previews? Wtf is this!!?!
Yes yes yes. Only a couple of previews in this blog, and so will it most likely be in every other blog. Why? We have decided that we wanted to keep the previews (screenshots etc) limited. Only showing a couple of screenshots to ensure you that we are working hard and that progress is being made on the mod.
We decided this because we don't want to spoil every single bit that comes in the mod. As we saw on the last modification thread of the previous team. There were constantly previews, everything that was being made was posted on the forum as soon as it was finished.
Well we don't want that. We want the mod to surprise, of course a lot won't be a surprise as most of you have seen or read the series. However we want that what you haven't seen yet to be kept unseen till the release, so you can explore and find it out yourself! Without screenshots showing you what to come. Also to try to keep a sort of "hype" up for the mod was one of our factors that made us decide this. Seeing we gues that people would love to explore the map and find new armors, weapons and more!
Apologies for those who do not agree with this. But this will be the way we're going to do it.

Night Watch and the Free Folk!
That's right, both the Night Watch and Free Folk will also be included in the modification. They both will be special factions as our plans go right now. Troops trees are being designed for them. So if there were any doubts than I hope this will take them away. More information will follow later on these factions in the next developer blogs.

No news about the scenes yet? What is this heresy!?!
Aye, apologies for that. However the last bits are being done on the module so the sceners (including myself) can get started on the scenes. So far we haven't started yet on them, and have only those scenes given by Hiner and Kaampper. You will see scenes back that have been previewed before like the Winterfell scene, the Lannisport scene and the Twins scene! More about the scenes will follow in the next blogs!

With that we will end the second Developer blog, we hope that we have informed you well enough for the time being. Next blog is to be expected around the same time next week. With new previews, and more information about the progress and plans of the modification!

Welcome to the 3rd Developer blog of the Game of Thrones modification!
In this blog, we will once again will show a couple of previews, and a bunch of information about the modification.

So, as the title of this Dev blog say's. The scening has began, this week our coder got everything together for the sceners to get started.
Some small starts have been made on the scening side, but no big ones. For so far I have only checked over the scenes that were made by other people, which were donated to the project. What for now will be my first job, some scenes had some weird bugs.  As in scene props that changed and messed up the castle/scene. I've worked a bit and I am nearly done with finishing up the Twins scene. So work on the scening side has finally started. And we will keep you updated on the progress being made on it at the next Dev blogs.

Another new member!
This week we can also annouch that we welcome another new team member! Phantom66 will be helping on the coding side of the modification and with him on the team we hope to get things done faster then they would have been. Speeding up the progress!
There haven't been any other changes on the developer team, and the freelancers. Neither is there much news about them. I guess I can only still say that Eagle has also started to model and texture. But that's it.

Welcome to the 4th Developer blog of the Game of Thrones modification!
At this point, we are enable to show you a preview of our first new made scene for the modification. For the rest there is not much to share unfortunatly.

First the title. What does it mean/where does it stand for? Well this blog will be mainly about the first scene we (I) created for this modification. As is stated above. Because of the fact that we are holding back previews in general. What means that we have to cut a bit here and there. Well this is one of the blogs we will have to cut a bit. So what will these kind of "cut" blogs be about? Well for this one we will elaborate a bit on the scenery of the mod. Other then that we will also welcome a new member to our team. A well known person in the modding community. And we are very happy to have him on board.

As just said, we (as team) are happy to inform you that recently Lumos has joined our team! Obviously he will be doing the thing he is good at. That would be Coding of course. And with him on board we are quite sure that progress on the project will go much faster! How much we can't tell though. :razz:

Gulltown - Scenery
So the first scene made by our new team would be Gulltown. Now first a bit of information about Gulltown for those who never heard of it. 
Gulltown is a major port city, and the largest city in the Vale. Located in the South-East of the Vale. It's owned by House Grafton

For a quick note however, take in mind that it could not exactly be as it should have been. I could say I have given it a bit of my own touch to it. (For example the castle behind the town) also the size might not be as big as it should be for a major town. Though even with that I gues it will do. Though I am satisfied with the result. And I hope you will be as well. Other then that, it is still not in it's final state. I'm still planning to add more detail in it.
But if there are any suggestions so far (from what you can see) go ahead place them on the thread and I'll look into them!

for the rest of the scenery, I've made a start with the scene for Bear Island. Including a wooden town. Also I've been working on fixing several  already "finished" scenes, sometimes including ai-meshes to them. And other times replacing scene props for whatever reason.
All together I can happily say that the scening progress is going good. You can expect more previews of the progress made in later blogs!


With this we will sadly end the 4th Developer blog, we hope that you like what we have shown so far. Don't forget to invite all your mates to our steamgroup we are still thinking about ways to promote the mod's progress even more but for now the steamgroup will have to do!

Welcome to the 5th Developer blog of the Game of Thrones modification!
In this blog we will be showing several previews, including a scene, scene props, items and information about an upcoming feature!

So, once again to take everything of the past week short. I myself have been working on a major scene and I'm nearly done with that, previews are shown below. Eagle has been busy on the modeling and texturing as he made a scene prop that we will also preview below. Furthermore we've had our freelancers busy. And our latest joined team member is also hard working on the coding side of the project. Owen has been working hard on some new feature and some troop trees and on top of that we have launched our own Moddb page! All in all I can say we have had a busy week!

Let's start here, recently we have created our Moddb page, with aim to promote our project even more and at this point we are very happy with the current 37 watchers, and 7709 views! Who have supported us so far on Moddb a big thank you from the team! And for the others, help us out! Inform your mates, and take a look yourself on our page and help us to go to the top 25! Inns
The new feature is still being worked out, to be put in the mod at a later stage. Here is some information regarding it from Owen.

The concept behind inns is to spice up the world map with new sights besides villages, castles and towns. Inns were born out of a need not only to fill in some empty map space but also offer a convenient pit stop for players running low on supplies, running from bandits, or in need of a place to stay for a day. They will be situated along roads in between towns, complete with their own names and, if times permits, their own characteristics. I think that this system of Inns could give the mod that special something to distinguish it from other ventures. But that is just my opinion.

The idea of Inns is to function as neutral settlements that will not be attacked or sacked by hostile parties. While this may seem ridiculous considering the country is at war, it was felt that convenience was more important than meeting realistic expectations. As these inns function as independent enterprises, they will not care who you are fighting for so long as you can pay for your room and board.

Besides providing the players with a safe place to stay, inns will also be filled with mercenaries looking to sign up for caravan duty or join the armies of lords. This could even explain why these inns have not been torched by the first band of marauders to come upon it. Special merchants such as smugglers might also be added as regular patrons, as well as prostitutes on the lower rung of the pecking order.

To start things off, I conjured 5 names for inns for every region in Westeros with the Westerlands and Crownlands joined together. I do not think we should do 5 per area, just that these are the choices presented. Now, these came off the top of my head and I can consider the matter further if some of the names are not useful.

(Which inns there will be won't be told, and will be kept for you to find out once the mod is released!  :twisted:)

New Scene!: Highgarden!
Alright then! First of all. I am expecting some critics here because once again I gave it my own touch to it. It's still a W.I.P but it's coming along. (Also notice that it aint that big as some pictures might show you, apologies for that but if I make it that huge there would be a big chance that no one would be enable to play the scene without having a good PC including myself.
Highgarden is the seat of House Tyrell, regional capital of the Reach and heart of chivalry in the Seven Kingdoms.

Help Wanted Post

Here, just as in the first post, we will periodically place positions on the team that are open or jobs that are undone. As we are a community based venture, the continued support of the forums is one of our greatest assets.

- Sceners: We are currently in need of good sceners to help build the world the player
will inhabit. That includes villages, towns, castles and so on.

- Modellers: We are currently in need of someone who can design and create clothing for the women in the mod, from Queen Cersei to that one prostitute in Mole Town who is really good with a crossbow.

- Texturers: Experienced texturers who can jump in and start helping are preferred.
