~Mount & Blade Modders Featured in PC Gamer January Issue (Article Pic Up!)~

I did a quick search and scanned the first few pages and didn't find anything on this.

I got my January issue of PC Gamer today, and after I finished reading the L4D feature and some reviews, I flipped to the opinion articles in the back. I usually check out 'Homebrew', (the article that usually talks about Mods, for those unfamiliar) By Brett Todd, for modding news and the Mod of the Month. I was especially surprised and excited to see the article title "Filling in the Mount & Blade Blanks".

I'm gonna go see if I can get you guys a picture, but for now, I'll give you the gist. He basically talks about how although M&B isn't, totally bad alone, its the mod that makes it shine. Several modders and their mods are named, including Janus(Battle Size Changer), Dark Soldier(Zombie Soldier), Sheek(Calradia Capitalism), Ancientwanker(The Last Days), Ealabor(Hegemony 268 BC), and Chel (EG 'Illumination').

You've really got to try games for yourself these days, because these kind of mags aren't run by the gamers they pretend to , but bums begging for more free gifts, parties, and ad contracts from devs in exchange for positive reviews. I mean it's nice that they're begrudgingly and very round about way admitting their review for M&B wasn't similar to the community for it at all... but they're still acting like a bunch of snarky queer WoW players who won't give any other game a fair play.

You have to admit that M&B, although good, left much to be desired. It could have been so much more, and that's the problem. Most people say the game get 5/5 Reviews cause of all the mods. Well reviewers don't base their score on modding capability. That's what this article does. It explains that the game really shines when you check out the community and all the mods there are.

Why should the work of the modders not be recognized on the same level as the original developers themselves, when reviewing a game? Does the fact that they don't get paid, or aren't part of the base team push their work from that or what's graded?

It doesn't "suck". I quite like being able to make my own direction.

EDIT: Glad to see that they've talked about the best part of the game - moddability - at last. It was part of the reason that I bought it in the first place.

But then, they are talking as if the modders alone is the one who decide that M&B need more story/background/etc. And ignoring the fact that it is the devs that make it possible by releasing the module system.
