Compilation of 82 little tweaks to the text files to change your gameplay(links)

I read your "change who gets what land" tweak, but it doesn't quite fit what I would ideally like. How would I set it so that it uses the default scoring system *unless* I request the land after capturing it, whereby it heavily weights, or even gaurantees, that I get it? My reasoning is I don't want the NPC lords given more land than they can each handle, or landless lords not having an effective means of building up their armies (which would happen if I were to alter the *personally captured* weighting (which I believe also weights the odds for an NPC if they capture it (??))), but I do want to receive strategically located castles and so on that I have painstakingly slaughtered my troops to capture (battlesizer really does make towns much harder to capture)

thanks!

I see this in the list:

3. Change number of prisoners you can hold per prisoner management point.

Is there a mod/tweak similar to this that would change the amount of inventory you can hold per inventory point?

thanks

Build up your relationship with your king, and then boost the relationship bonus sky high, as IIRC that bonus only applies to the player

Adding Meet with Village Elder and Guild Master options to the menus

I tried to do this before, but couldn't convert it from .960 to 1.003.  Now that the 1.010 module system is out this was easy.

Open up menus.txt and search for mno_village_manage, it should look like this:

Sorry about the big blocks of text, there's quite a bit of stuff between the red numbers that have to be updated and the actual meeting code.  The module system code I used here can be found in my post back on page 34 if you're interested.

Edited to correct a bug in the code.

I get an error message when I apply this tweak, and the game won't start.

Hi guys,

I used the tweak for enabling the village elder to give me a quest even after i refuse him and the tweak for reducing the timer for village quests, when i started a new game, i received 1 quest of each type (train peasants, wheat and cattle), after that the village elders all stop giving me quests, so my game's pretty broken now, can anyone help? i'm on patch 1.011

I think I have the same issue with the village elder quest fix. Once I did a decent amount of quests they stopped giving them. I tried asking every village elder for a quest and they all didn't have any... waited at least 14 in game days and its still the same. Anyone familiar enough with the system to debug?

I greatly appreciate the work you guys are doing, and I have a question: Is it possible to fix the "fixed" party skill bonuses? It used to be that they'd go all the way to 10, making taking the party skills yourself as well actually useful, but it's been changed in the recent versions so that they cap out at a measly 4. So.... any way to reverse this "fix"?

Is There a tweak were you can place you soilders in a village iv seen it somewere and edited the txt file and it worked but then i did something else and screewed it up so i lost it and i carnt find it again

MageLord, I tried using your Xp modifier tweak along with Leadership & Prisoner management point bonuses, but whenever I try to save the edit I get :  Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Mount&Blade\Modules\Native\modules.ini file  Make sure that path and file names are correct.

Ive tried saving it a different way, but It keeps reverting to the original module file. You know whats going on? x]

I am a mere acolyte unworthy to stand in the Mage Lord's shadow, but as modesty is ill-becoming even an acolyte mage, I'm going to try to do some tech support anyway.  Remember you get what you pay for with this advice

MisterBarca, are you sure you copied the bolded numbers correctly, The green indicates the position of the number in your file that you'll need to paste over the bolded blue numbers for the tweak to work.  Also important is the bit about changing the number on the line before, as that tells the code how many script conditions come in the next section and a mismatch would probably cause what you're getting.  Failing that, are you sure you preserved the line spacing and spaces after periods?

Lecundra and Brent, that's over my tech support pay grade.  I seem to recall rumors that the 1.011 patch fixed the bug elsewhere in code, so this tweak for 1.010 may re-break 1.011.  Dunno.  I'll add my voice to the chorus asking for wiser heads to clarify this.

Ringwraith, I have an answer to your question that Microsoft Help would be proud of.  I know at least one modder has changed it for their mod, so it is possible.  Seriously, I think I recall seeing something to that effect in the .ini file.  Otherwise I just dunno.

Beelzeboss, Tommylaw posted that in this very thread, then I overlooked it and posted a link to his other thread about it.  I know it's in here somewhere, last post on page 64 or so I think.  If the something else you did was to add the talk to village elder option to the menu, you'll have to set the 11 not to 12 but to 13, since you're adding not one but two new menu options.  Beat my head against that one a time or two before figuring it out.

HimuraBattosai, it sounds like you're using Vista.  Which by default protects everything in the Program Files directory from mere computer owners modifying it.  You can either install M&B to some other folder outside Program Files (which I recommend for all future game installs) or you can look around on this or most any other game forum for help dealing with Vista access control on the program files folder.  I know there's a setting in some menu that fixes it (which type of thing I refer to as the hidden checkbox labeled "work"), but as I'm on XP I never bothered to learn it.

Thanks mate, I'll try installing it somewhere else or something, see if that works...I can't wait to get my computer back up and running, get back on XP where I can edit and completely f**k up my games!

How do you change how the king selects the marshal?

And is it possible to make a lord stay garrisoned when you tell them to go to a castle/town? They keep running out one at a time and getting crushed instead of staying put and defending.

Why yes, that is very M$-ey, thank you so very much.
Seriously, I'm glad it's possible, even though I found nothing of the sort in the ini. I just have to keep asking until Magelord sees this and answers. So thanks for that at least.

Since I couldn't help Ringwraith, I thought I'd atone by posting something I just figured out.  LordKinlar created the original tweak I based this off of.  His thread for it is http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,51962.0.html and it allows you to equip regular troops in the same manner as companions.  Want your Huscarls mounted on Chargers and wearing plate?  One of each is all you need.  Of course, ALL huscarls will then be wearing plate and riding chargers, but that's the price of progress, right?

So anyway, Carrick asked if we could do something similar to allow you to take gear from your prisoners.  I don't know how to do so for generic prisoners (and since it would permanently alter all troops of that type I don't think you'd really want to anyway), but by trail and error I did finally alter LordKinlar's tweak to let you loot your captured lords.

Open conversation.txt and find prisoner_chat.  It looks like this in vanilla:
dlga_prisoner_chat:prisoner_chat_2 69631 14  0 Do_not_try_running_away_or_trying_something_stupid._I_will_be_watching_you.  850 0
dlga_prisoner_chat_2:close_window 4095 850  0 No,_I_swear_I_won't.  6  0

Change it to:
dlga_prisoner_chat:prisoner_talk 69631 14  0 Hey!  1998  0
dlga_prisoner_talk:prisoner_talk2 4095 1998  0 Yes?  1999  0
dlga_prisoner_talk2:prisoner_trade 69631 1999  0 To_the_victor_go_the_spoils._Let_me_see_your_equipment.  2000  0
dlga_prisoner_trade:prisoner_talk2 4095 2000  0 Very_well,_it's_all_here,_you_fiend.  1998  1 2051 0
dlga_prisoner_talk2:prisoner_chat_2 69631 1999  0 Do_not_try_running_away_or_trying_something_stupid._I_will_be_watching_you.  850  0
dlga_prisoner_chat_2:close_window 4095 850  0 No,_I_swear_I_won't.  6  0

The red indicates the line numbers you'll most likely have to change if you apply this tweak to a mod instead of vanilla.  Juts replace them with whatever is in the place of the 850 in the original version of the mod's conversation.txt.  If the mod has a LOT of dialog, you may get some weirdness and have to adjust the blue ones as well so they don't conflict with other dialog lines.  But not many mods have 2000 lines of dialog.

Once you take their armor, a script gives them their civilian clothes, so it pays to rob them twice (rich cloaks sell for a lot, and by the gods the folks in my dungeons should be wearing rags!).  I've not tested it, but I suspect that once you free them, the same script will give them back their clothes once they enter a castle and their armor back once they leave it (otherwise I think sometimes you'd see lords wearing their rich cloaks on the battlefield).  Like I said, that part's untested so far.   But if it doesn't work, take comfort in the fact that my save games are full of naked lords too.

Edit: Well, it was a good idea while it lasted.  Turns out once you make them naked, lords remain naked, at least when they respawn in the castle.  I haven't fought a released lord yet, just talked to him, but he didn't have his gear back.

Oooooooooh, now that is uber cool!
Say, what's it going to do if I capture a lord and, say, dress him up in women's clothing? Is the script going to change him back into his normal clothes?

Edit: Hmm, that's odd. I encountered some Sea Raiders but the game got stuck, it said "click to continue" but didn't. I removed the tweak and it worked fine. Any idea what I did wrong in applying it?
On a similar note, I got defeated in the last battle and instead of the usual "your companions carry you away from the fighting" screen I got "you have been defeated". Then I fought another round normally. Could that be caused by some of the text file abuse that I've subjected my game to?

Far as I can tell, he'll be a cross dresser in your dungeon until you free him and he goes to a castle and gets his own clothes.  If you're into crossdressers in dungeons, knock yourself out, just don't tell me about it.  forever

I assume "the" tweak is mine, right?  You probably didn't do anything wrong.  It didn't occur to me to check it in any other case besides talking to a captured lord, and in any case I haven't had a chance to playtest lately anyway.  So I may have done something dumb and not recognized it.  Don't think so, but . . .
Another possibility is that my line 850 is not the native line number after all.  I accidentally tweaked the wrong module folder and had to recompile Native from source, and maybe have somethign goofy in my "Native" as a result of that.
Third possibility is, as you say, that you've tweaked your text files so much that you created your own line number conflict.  When I get a chance I'll check for screwed up Sea Raider encounters in my own game.

Edit:  Not a conclusive test since I'm only using this tweak in a modded game featuring autoloot, so my after battle dialog is delayed, but it does seem to be working normally after engaging some Sea Raiders.

Crud, that means I must've messed something else up earlier. Well thanks anyway, I appreciate the tweak and your help.

Also, I'll repeat my earlier question lest it get buried and goes unanswered.

I've been looking around the forums for a while and i still can't find clear answers to these questions. Hope someone can help

How do you create a player faction (like in Native expansion)?

Can skill/proficiency/stats effects be tweaked?

Thanks!
