They are currently grouped together as the faction "Italian City States" because they did not fight amongst themselves during the period and are quite similar in nature. I might make them seperate later in development, but it's not a priority.

that's not even necessary. just have slightly different troops for each of the major city states, so you'd be able to have patrolling (non-lord) armies called "[City state] Army" and the troops would all have a similar uniform.

Hmmmm....
Well currently the City States use Itallian mercenaries. By then state troops in Italy are usually there to defend cities against attacks while the campaigns are faught by condottieri mercenaries.
Venice is an exeption and had major state armies, but the duchies usually hired mercenaries.

Patrolling armies are very interesting. I should find a way to enable the player to build non-lord armies by putting troops into it and telling it what to do(like patrol area etc) while the other cities could make their own patrolling armies using random troops from the cities' garrison.

SUGGEST TO ME WHAT UNITS YOU WANT IN THE MOD
« Reply #32 on: October 22, 2008, 04:02:37 am »
I just put up a list of units for the mod. If there is a unit that you want in the mod please discuss it in this thread.

There are units that I am considering not to put into the mod and they are marked "(disputable)". If you do or do not want those units to be included please discuss in this thread.

To Mylae, Awsome! anything even related to Renaissance would help me a lot.

Very cool looking mod. I especially like the big map and long spear-fighting Landsknechts :P.

About the marked units

               - you could drop   venetian archers - becoming obsolete
romagnol pikeman - failed attempt to match their foreign counterparts

               - you could keep   swiss crossbowmen - average firepower for the formation
ducal cavalry - can be useful for the italian factions

Is possible to include condottieri (maybe like companions, recruitable by all factions)?
hello chisense people im from english forums just thought i come in pop and say hi :p...  shame i can't read your language :( although you probley dont understand mine :p anyway hi all!

Reading a book makes my head ache.

Wooot someone used the banner :) Thanks Palos

...The reason I'm considering keeping Venetian Archers is because it's the only archer unit left in the game.. The bow hasn't become obsolete until the late 16th century though their usage drastically declined. The English army actually hung on to it for quite a while.

Condottieri as companions/lords would be very interesting. I should make a system of say 5 state lords and 15 mercenary lords that can be convinced to switch states..

The reason that there is only 2 troops for HRE is that the Empire consists of united German states, Austria, and Spain united under Emperor Charles V. HRE's armies are mostly Landsknechts and Spanish. The only thing uniquely Imperial I can think of is the cavalry(Man at Arms)..
I might give them some guard troops?

regarding renaissance armor and stuff, there were some really beautifull pieces in Pirates of Calradia mod for .903 called "spanish armor". guess, it might help you.

But, yeah... aren't those pikes a little too long

as stated by wiki: "A pike is a pole weapon, a very long thrusting spear used two-handed..."

sure sounds good. understand now why you dont have any HRE troops. Guard troops sound good.

Gallus, what are your plans regarding the quests and the player's interaction with his/other factions?

Are you going to include diplomatic options for the factions?

I am thinking of making being a mercenary a larger part of gameplay by increasing the wages you receive for being hired as a mercenary company. It would become an actual job that makes you rich and when you take cities or defeat enemy parties you get significant rewards. And the wages you receive will increase with higher faction relations.

Regarding quests, I plan to make new quests involving battles or sieges rather than completing boring tasks. One in particular is "reinforce battle" quest which will be given if there is a large battle nearby. Similarly, "relieve siege" quest would be randomly assigned when one of the faction's cities is under siege.

One of the most important thing, though, would be the ability to establish your own faction. Eventually I will try to implement a "mercenary lord" system where certain lords can be convinced to join your faction long as you pay them. Supplying them will be very expensive so you can only hire as many as you can pay for.
Hopefully companions will also be able to be made into "loyal" lords.
These features may not be implemented in the first version, though.

Diplomatic quests such as "wage war" or "make peace" will be assigned by the Kings rather than guildmasters or lords. If you establish your own faction you can wage war or make peace by talking to other faction leaders.

...btw I heard the module system may be coming out soon with the next update, so modding might finally start again after all these months :)

that is a great idea. most of all bothers the fact that you actually can't end your contract in Native...only way how to do it (as far as I know) is become a vassal and then ask the king to release you, which is a bit stupid. for what i think mercenaries were used for a single campaign or at most few months (considered their substantial cost). so i'd like to get "fired" after some amount of time (say 5 weeks in mount & blade or so). so that i could "take my sword" somewhere else. any hope of getting that in game?
