A simple tax collector mod...
« on: August 22, 2008, 11:29:47 PM »
Hello everyone,

I just completed my first mod.  It adds a tax collector in Praven that will automagically collect all the taxes from your fiefs.
I just wanted to get everyone's input on the best way to package it.  I compiled and zipped the mod and its
16mb!!!  This seems to be a bit excessive for a few changes to a couple .py files. Unfortunately just listing the code would make it tough for regular people to easily use it. Whats everyone's thoughts?  Full package? Just the relevant .py files? Code snippets?

For now, the full package is at:

http://www.wretchedsoft.com/TaxMan.exe

(Also on MBX now.)

Any thoughts on the mod or distribution angle would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Steve A.

Credits:  Thanks KON Air for your insight! Also, it was MeestYk's idea from a different thread... I just imposed my will on the system to make it happen.

Nice one, thanks. I'll give it a run in the morning.  :)

Any way you could add a taxman in one city of each of the factions? It's kinda problematic visiting the taxman if you have joined another faction who are at war with the Swadian.

What about adding the tax collectors option to the guild masters?

++ Yeah, I'm kind of a Swadian prostitute I just added him to Praven for simplicity, but this would be a far more functional idea for everyone else.  I'll try to get a new version up this weekend.

++ I want to use my own NPC so I can spawn some quest related stuff later.  Otherwise, this wouldn't be a bad idea.

Thanks for the suggestions!

[EDIT:  Was a bit easier than I thought. I just uploaded a new version (to MBX and my website) with a tax collector in 1 town for every faction. Praven, Veluca, Tihr, Reyveidin, Halmar.]

Great idea! I have been looking for something like this as well. Is there a way to add the tax collector to the Hegemony MOD? Or create one that resides in the training centers that will port across all mods?

I am not a modder so I am not sure how this works, but I am pretty sure that the tax collector being in those other cities will not work for other mods.

Thanks!

++ Depending on the mod, probably not very difficult at all.  I might extract the relevant code and post snippets if people want to merge it.

Ssallen,

That would be great thanks! I had another idea, this would probably take a bit/lot of programing, but it would be nice to have small groups (20 maybe) travel from your towns to your villages picking up taxes. That way you could raid your enemy taxes and have yours raided too.

Either way thanks!

Great mod SSAllen!  :D

You're lucky I don't know how to mod! Yet.  lol
I'd definitely make one like this one with extra features.  Guardsmen, enough to keep danger at bay while our collector jingles all the way to your bank depot(s).
So:

Guards to secure treasury and collector, where both guards and collector get a fixed wage.
Treasury hold where you keep all your money. Guarded of course by your most trusted men.
All nations (all 5) should have them to keep a balance, plus raids from anyone just like caravans.
almost forgot ...all this for v 1.xx of course.

Kudos!

ssalen,

Is it possible to make it so the taxes are just placed on your character - No need to collect or Auto collect?

Thanks.

Any idea when we will have a port to 1.xx version?
Great mod indeed.

this idea should be added to normal M&B
Whats the difference between a recruit on taleworlds forums and a Sergent at arms, a recruit would rather play the game instead of talking about it

TheMageLord has a tax collector tweak on his list of text tweaks here:

Yeah, no worries.  Its actually a pretty simple script when you get your mind around the mod system.  Just 2 different approaches to doing the same thing.  MageLord's script is a bit more adaptable... mine is a nice for roleplaying purposes.  I plan on forging it all into a content enhancement mod down the road.  That is, whenever we see the 1.03 mod system pop up.
