Diluvium- Rebalancing Revealed.
« on: March 21, 2008, 01:02:35 am »
Available Version:
This is kind of weak, but it's a glimpse at rebalancing of classes and weapons. If it makes you grin for 15 minutes that's good.
(No graphic changes yet.)

Here is a preview of the map.

Description of the mod:
Note: This first post describes the mod in a more accurate way than the original, reading the first page and a half past this may cause some initial confusion, be aware.;)

Taking place in the beginning of the Bronze Age, centered around the ancient Near East, the time period will be roughly Hammurabi's day, 1750 B.C. It will include actual locations, biblical characters, and a historically accurate but fictional story.

Background:
The Deluge is a myth about a great flood that supposedly overtook the world in 2105 BC (according to some dates) and was said to have wiped out all of mankind. Not one human being - or in fact, living thing, survived the flood except one family: an old man, his three sons, and their wives. They boarded a huge boat which took them 120 years to build, and took with them a pair of each type of animal that we have today, i.e. a pair of great cats, a pair of elephants, a pair of dogs, etc. This is the biblical account of noah's flood.

~Here's where we get into a little of my own imagination~

The story begins the day after Noah's death. He lived 350 years after the earth flooded over... and his three sons who are now very old themselves have many descendants of their own, who have replenished the earth. So anyway, now that Noah is dead, whose home became the Ark after the flood... his three sons and their tribes go to war against each other. The rest of history is at stake, and as they are the last vestige of the dawn of mankind, everything we know has come from these three men... and their actions. All the peoples of the earth we have today can trace their lineage back to them. But nevertheless, at this time there were within the Ark many secrets, knowledge which has been passed down since then, that had been collected since the beginning of mankind's current existence. And there are treasures too, some merely crude technologies that were around in the days before the flood: engineering, tactics, elementary teachings... but some were gifts from other worlds, from the angels and even God himself, which had been given to the first people. So we venture back into the second dawn of mankind. After the Cataclysm, there was a new beginning... one filled with tears and bloodshed. That's the story, and now you must decide which of the three great factions you will join, if you will take up the cause of some other force, be good or evil, or side only with yourself... you may decide the future of mankind.

Some of the ideas I'm hoping to include-
  • Pitching tents to create a temporary scene wherever the player is...
  • Higher mercenary tiers that will become available based on your popularity with towns and their location.
  • Unlockable weapons and armor upon rediscovering and/or discovering technology.
  • Fictional races: Giants, Vampires, and Fallen Angels.
  • New, innovative troop type: charioteers.
  • Issuing commands to your faction's lords based on Intimidation (Personal Skill).
  • Branching side quests concerning the forces of good and evil.
  • Dangerous but lucrative trade routes both on land and sea.
  • Ability to "siege" and take another boat.

This is going to be a small to medium-size mod when I first release it, which should be around the time the next version of M&B comes out. Eventually though, it's looking to be about a total conversion, making it a fairly large sized mod, and one of the most ambitious I've seen, so if your interested in further info, wanting to help, or just to give a little encouragement, please feel welcome!

Not really like there's going to be scripture in it, lol. It's just the myth most people are familiar with.

thx, some of it i only have a bit of an idea how to do, but that part should be easy. eh, on that note, i want troops to have a sort of weak feel. for a long time, most troops were merely shephard boys or farmers. only a few could afford better equipment than his everyday tools of the trade, a staff & sling or a pitchfork & sickle, etc. continuing, i'll probably make merchants into a type of mercenary.

oh yea, i forgot one of the most important ideas a friend of mine had. write a script that converts renown over a certain amount, say 500, into relation so you don't have to be friends with some punk ass lord to get him to follow you. also, "quests" for lords: like defend, attack, wait.

that's about all, just let me know if you wanna help me go along as i learn... anybody!

here's about what the map will look like, i hope it can provide a visual to help your imagination :)

And another one, in color:

Is Troy actually going to be in this? The Trojan war is supposed to have happened right at the time of this mod, so adding in a full fledged war might be difficult.
I like the fact that you're learning as you make a mod- i did the same. Remember to move around the python code like its a minefield- the slightest mistake and you lose a leg (learned the hard way).

I like the idea, good luck with it.

 Troy isn't named on that map -  it would be to the left of the word Anatolia if it were.
Q: what does Troy have to do with this? In 1200BC it was just a fishing village.

Edit:
Oh, I guess it is on the first one,
Well, they're slightly crappily labled maps.. your right kyle dude ;)

No, Troy will have nothing to do with this mod other than NOW possibly being a minor village :D
This is more set in the time of The Scorpion King for instance, only slightly before it about 100 years.

The people of the earth are still just tribes at this point, though nations could also be used to define them.
Here's a map you can find in the back of any Bible you look in.

I don't think I've heard of any other mods taking set during the Iron Age, that's a fantastic choice of time period. I heartily wish you good luck.
"When the castle falls, all those inside will be put to the sword. Your herds will be butchered, your godswood will be felled, your keeps and towers will burn. I'll pull your walls down, and divert the Tumblestone over the ruins. By the time I'm done no man will ever know that a castle once stood here." Jaime got to his feet. "Your wife may whelp before that. You'll want your child, I expect. I'll send him to you when he's born. With a trebuchet."

Mod sounds interesting but making total conversion of Native is hard.

The african tribes sound tasty.

I love the idea, good luck.
Nords ruled by King Ragnar, Khergits ruled by Sanjar Khan, Rhodoks ruled by King Graveth, Swadians ruled by King Harlaus, Vaegirs ruled by King Yaroglek. All those peoples live, fight, and die in the continent of Calradia. The Nords and Rhodoks field solely infantry and archers, the Swadians and Vaegirs have infantry, archers and cavalry and the Khergit field almost exclusively cavalry. No such things as "infarty" or "calvary" exist. A nice link to my mod ;)

No, this is just a few years before the Trojan war allegedly took place. Not that it's relevant, since your mod is fiction you can decide what you may want Troy to be, if you even use it at all.
