Annoying problem in original Mount & Blade

Ok, so forgive me if this is an exhausted question, I'm new to M&B. This is about the original game, Mount and Blade.

So, I was going around recruiting guys for my army (in taverns, I prefer it to villages) and it won't let me recruit anyone. I have empty space in my party (96/111) and I have enough money, so I don't know why it's not letting me recruit them. Any tips? I really need more men because I plan on taking a castle soon.

Do you have a very large variety of troop types in your party?
The original M&B had an unintended cap on the number of kinds of troops you could have in some versions of the release. That is to say, there was a version which fixed this, but I don't know if it's common.

If as you say you have the party space and money to purchase the troops there shouldn't be anything stopping you unless my suspicion is correct.

Try getting rid of one of your troop stacks if you have a lot of different troop stacks.
