The reform could be trigger in a different methods.  We should make polls and have people voting.  For example, marius reform being triggered by number of city captured, land conqueired, number of weeks passed by, talking with specific npc to change time (simliar to EG II mod).

Anyone agree with this idea?

Yeah, I do, though I think talking to a specific NPC to change the time would be best as it avoids relying on what happens in game (which can be rando mat best of times) and instead gives the player the full choice of when or if he wants the reforms to happen.

I still think 272 BC is far too early, late republic/early empire would be much more applicable to the armour and equipment we have to work with.

uhm if you do the mod in 272bc you have alot of work to do: romans have to redo from zero.

hmm thats unfortunate, cause I rather relish the idea of giving romans leather lorica segmentata and crossbows :/

Do you want to  add leather lorica segmentata?

Very good to hear. I never played Legions because of the terrible historical inaccuracies. It seems I'll have a chance to play it, after all.

An idea would be to crank up the time to Gaius Julius Caesar's era (100 BC - 44 BC).

The military reforms of Gaius Marius didn't occur until approximately 107 BC.
Maybe we can find a happy medium between it all.

Agree. Something around 100 BC would be better. There could be even Socii and Marius vs Sulla wars.
I know I know, I said it earlier. But I've thought since there is going to be historical accurate version of the mod (complete new mod in fact) I could add my two cents here.
But this is just my personal opinion.

Yes and No.  The Legions Mod: Extended is actually going for historical accuracy and a few other bonuses(not completely sure as to all of the points).  And the Legions mod that was the original is going to be the same, but updated. 8-)
I think I'm gonna have to start calling you "The Negotiator", Spawn. And that's just one short step from Obi-Wan in my book.

I say the person(s) actually doing the work get to determine what kind of mod they would enjoy doing.    Just my 2 cents.
Earlier Days Mod for 0.903, no longer in development.

The problem with starting the mod approxa 100 BC as some people might prefer, is that the faction selection will be greatly depreciated

http://www.roman-empire.net/maps/empire/extent/100bc-2.html

which would leave the game without Carthaginians, Greeks, Macedonians.

It only makes sense then to allow the player access to elements further down the timeline i.e. legions, via scripting etc.

Good point, ealabor.  I didn't even think of that.  In order to keep those factions we'd pretty much have to leave the time where it's at.
