Mod destination folder change

First off, I'd like to say that I am unsure of where to post this, so if this is the wrong place, please forgive me.

Is it possible to change the mod folder destination?  For example, I want to move my mods to my external hard drive, but I can't find a way to change the destination.  Is there a program I need to open, or a text file I need to edit?

I'd recommend just making a alias or shortcut of your modules folder into your desired location so you don't accidentally break something in the game.
