Starting Out in Brytenwalda

I've been playing Floris for quite some time now, and I'm looking for something new. Every time I played Floris I either joined a lord's/king's army or borrow money to get some cavalry mercenaries, so I can attack bandits to free manhunters. For my first character I want to play a noble pagan Irishmen, so what should I do initially to get on the path of success? I'm shooting for eventually becoming the king of Ireland ad converting it back to paganism.

This actually sounds like fun, I'm going to try that. But personally I'm curious, what is the tallest race? I've seen in tournaments some guy named something the great saxon and he's nearly 7 feet! I'd love to play a character that replicates just a massive, but slow badass. How would one accomplish this?

From what I understand all the races played by you, are the same height. However, there are NPCs that are taller than you. Though starting in Ireland I'm thinking of going to the United Kingdom, to trade sliver to build up some money.
