Frequent suggestions and links (Read well before posting!)

Users who are viewing this thread

There are several suggestions that frequently crop up on this forum and have been discussed thoroughly in the past. For everyone's convenience, I've compiled a list of as many topics as I and the other members could think of and added related links to each of them, so you can just read up on whatever you're thinking of posting about instead of making a new post, identical to all the earlier ones. If you have a new take on the subject, you can always join in the discussion, but if your idea isn't on this list or you don't want to bump a thread that's several months old (Most of these are pretty recent, though), then go ahead and start a new one. As long as you read this post.

Good post okiN. I hope it's read.

I think it would be difficult or at least time consuming to add links to the listed suggestions - as Ingolifs suggested - because there are multiple threads on the same subject. Which of the hunting threads, shield bash threads, etc. would he choose? Plus there are many repeats of the same suggestions contained within threads titled "Some suggestions" or "More Suggestions".

And few people would probably follow the link anyway because "I just discovered the game and don't have time to read the other posts so here goes". It's unlikely the guy who started the "Removable limbs" thread http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=3027 searched (or even read last week's posts) because he would've seen the "Hmmm Gore" http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=2853 thread that is on practically the same subject: violent amputations.

Well, it's to be expected I suppose: next week someone will suggest a shield bash, troop formations, more detailed commands, and multiplayer. It's as inevitable as the message "Borcha's been knocked unconscious."

When (if) i have the time, i might do a quotable quick link thing, like i did for the discussion forum. Although for this one, I will give a link to all the relevant threads, not just one.

As for this thread, a frequent suggestions page has been suggested several times before. Here are a couple i've found.

http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=2922
http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1286

I suppose though that an admin could create 'official' threads for these topics, and any new ones that spring up could either by moved to the official thread for the topic or deleted.

You might want to make those into links so that people can find the correct place.

That was the idea all along, I was just too lazy to do it straight away. I'll eventually add links to relevant threads where the topic in question has been discussed thoroughly.

Woot, I own a sticky!

In that case, i'll start you off. Here's what i found in the oldest three pages of suggestions

-dropping cargo to make you lighter

-loot of war too of too high quality
http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=159

-campsites

http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=305
http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=171

-health for horses
http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=187

-mercenaries work for more than a pittance

-playing as a bandit
http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=329
http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=418

-becoming a lord and owning land
http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=381

You might want to add strafing/dodging/rolling to sprinting and magic items to magic incase people don't get the idea. The only things I can think of immediately that you left out were:

Knocking people off horses.
More horses.
Detailed Cities.
Guns.
More armor slots.
Permanent Death.
Shared Experience.
Enemy Heros. (don't know if this falls under "other NPC characters")
Flails and other chain weapons.

I'm sure there are still more but, I can't think of any immediately.

These have been suggested several times. They've been discussed thoroughly, all we have to do now is wait and see. In other words, in all likelyhood, there's no need to suggest them again unless you have something truly remarkable to add to them and you've run a thorough search to make sure no-one's ever mentioned it before. Ever.

This is not a gripe and I support more order in the forum.

Are you suggesting that people should not post on the subjects you listed? They having been "discussed thoroughly". Or are you suggesting that people should post to an existing thread regarding the subjects? If it's the latter which thread should people post to?

And btw, what makes an idea "truly remarkable" anyway? Who decides?

Take camping for instance; mentioned many times you'll agree. Probably >10 threads out there on the subject. Say I want to make a post about camping... where should I post? In the thread with the earliest mention of camping or the latest?

I agree we don't want to see any more new threads saying something nothing more than "I think camping would be great". Personally I think the mods should be more active and move (or even delete) new threads like that.

As previously stated I think we should have a few more stickies on the general elements of the game (or in an ideal world a suggestions forum that allowed sub categories). This would help to keep track of ideas, would reduce reposting and generally improve order and forum coherance.

What I'm saying is that people should stop making threads about age-old topics when they have nothing new to bring to the table. "Truly remarkable" here pretty much just means "something that hasn't been suggested ten times and discussed to death already". If you want to make a post about camping, then you either post in a recent thread about camping or if you feel it doesn't really fit the thread or there's no topic in sight and you'd rather make a new thread than resurrect a month-old discussion, you can go ahead and start a new one. The point here is to stop identical "You know, it'd be nice if you could bash enemies with your shield" suggestions from being posted every other day, even though there are three related topics on the front page.

If we link the suggestions in this thread to all the other threads, a newbie can go to one of those discussions. If there's something that hasn't been discussed about it, he can then post it.

At almost every forum i've been to (and that's a lot) it's the same thing. People asking the same question again and again and again and...
On all of theese forums there's also a lot of people telling them not to do this and so on.

I have seen a different approach at one forum, as soon as someone posted (or rather, as soon as a mod found this post) something that was "old news" that thread was moved to a subforum called old news/moved posts.

A link remained in the original place the post was made with the words "moved to old news". It worked quite well actually, not many read that subforum and thoose who wanted to ask something soon learned that and used the search instead. Of course, thoose who are totally new to the forum didn't know this but you can never do anything about newcomers!
I've actually seen a forum with a HUGE header saying "DO NOT POST BEFORE READING THE FAQ". In the faq all the info about not posting old news and so on was written... didn't help much, there was still heaps of new posts asking "when is the patch coming" or whatever.

It's just the nature of forums i think, or rather of some people.

True, but a guy can try, can't he?

Yes, not much else one can do! And i'm sure it helps a bit atleast.

I was in no way critisizing your post, it was more of a "sigh, why will people never learn" at thoose that post the same thing over and over.
Pretty much the same thing you did with the first post, but your post was meaningful and helpful while mine was...eh...ah... well time to stop i think.

Heavy weapons and charged attacks that break parries (no more war hammers that get parried with a hatchet).

I would just like to point out that this feature is so important to battle realism.

Ta-dah! Massive update, related links added to all items. I tried to choose them according to thread length, age, how much it addressed the actual issue and whether or not there was an official statement on the subject. Also typed up a new, more fitting intro.

From now on, anyone who wants something added to the list has to supply a link as well. And if I don't think the link is good, I won't add it even then, so pick them carefully.
