Thanks!

Well, it works barely as any economic system.
There are some 'historical' routes. But price as order varying regarding the events (war disturb the caravan supply and so prices change).
As example, Curaw provide cheap iron while Dhirim often pay high price for it.

You have first to identify whats the standart margin for each valuable goods. Then finding where they are the most common and where they are the most rare.
Great news isnt it?!

finding ingame info
  • A good start can be raise your trader party skill up to 5 (under, you will suffer a price penalty) and then hear about market rumors (a merchant talk option).
  • Speaking about rumors with commoners (in town as village) can also give some actual tips.
  • Talking with caravan master into the wild about their trade may also give some idea.

Towns or villages
The best is to check price everytime you reach a market place. Keep also in mind that towns are provided by villages, and practice higher price. So, if Curaw can offer iron at fair price, this means you may find even lower price in one or more villages which belong to this place.

The higher not always the better
Some goods like velvet can offer high margin, but are hard to find in quantity. It is often more effective to trade lesser expensive goods in larger quantity. Foods can be a very good trade-off if you can carry a large amount of them. Also, expensive goods can be hard to sell with a nice margin sometime, while more common goods tend to be more easy to sell at fair price in most town.

Network
A fine reputation with your market place (towns as villages, but mostly towns) greatly help to have better price.
If you manage to have over 20 with a town you will see a nice benefit, for goods sure, but for the rest too (armor, weapon, horse)!
This factor can turn the table regarding the 'official trade routes', really.

Entreprise
Buying a patent to start an entreprise in a town is probably the best way to have regular cashflaw as an independant merchant. You can even (ab-)use their inventory to stock some items.
But be careful about your entreprise location. To stick with the iron sample, if you start to produce tools (from iron so) in Dhirim, tools price may begin to raise down while iron one may raise up. If you dont provide this entreprise yourself with cheap iron, the margin may be very low, even negative. So, think twice before running such entreprise.

As an independant merchant, you can easly become more rich than lords which own castles and even towns, and with lesser risk in end.
