I am also in the process of heavily modifying/randomizing books and book reading.
Now, Reading book also give you global knowledge points, and player global experience points.

Book read speed now also depends on your intelligence and literacy knowledge (it was a basic number).

I would like to have random generic books at book store, so that there will be an endless amount of books to read. Or should I keep them in low numbers ?

Books could be defined by there complexity, size, and subject .

Books that add specific knowledge points, as well as global knowledge and experience and skill points.
 
I really consider adding libraries in town. Libraries will not lend books. Libraries will hold a set number of books, all randomized. You will then be able to spend some times redaing books, for a fee, to improve specific or global knowledge.

I might add some faction langages to increase complexity.

Books available (and such knowledges areas), would be faction specific...
 
I had to tone down this feature. Added a re readable "global knowledge" book. Available at book seller.
Specific faction knowledge is given by faction wisemen.
