Because the sporadic political conversation that comes up in the other threads is dismissed, to never rarely be visited again, and I'm foolish enough to think that making one mega-thread will somehow solve that.

The two purposes of this thread:
1) Tell us with what you affiliate yourself politically.
2) Inevitably defend your silly beliefs upon the onslaught of the 'true' ideology.

I'll put up a comprehensive poll as well and I'll add/divide/merge options as requests for so appear.

I'm unaffiliated. What do?
Probably moderate then.

But if you're referring simply to political parities, I consider you can still have a political affiliation even if you don't affiliate yourself with an organization, but an ideology.

EDIT: I put up 'Independent' because that sounds nice.

All of the above. How do simple labels help at all?
Without particular political issues, labels like that are empty words.

Isn't "independent" in the US really "contrarian ******* that hates both parties" or "better sounding than nutty fascist"?

Shouldn't there be an anarchist option?
Yep, slipped my mind.

I would say labels do help, as I can confess that a communist is, much of the time, going to have not only a different reason for a cause of a problem, but a different solution. Sometimes labels more similar than others will share solutions and reasoning, but generally the ones given are so broad in category that it's hardly a problem or useless.

But if you want to start getting into the dirt with the get-go, throw up a political issue or criticism of an opposing ideology.

My opinions of independents is that they are so repulsed by current government practices of political parties that they refuse to even share a name of an ideology with those political parties, even if the name is actually what they believe.

On the other-hand, independent can also refer to someone who isn't soundly decided in any given ideology and is still exploring their political beliefs. At least more than the rest of us  - to the point they can't identify with anything given.

Is there a whatever is convenient at the time option.
I would consider that moderate.

Independent.

Contrary to what you are implying, this is actually going far better than I had thought.

But it got bombed before it took off.
At first I thought you meant brownshirt, but then I realized that I still need to watch Firefly.

When fascism is winning I don't see how that is 'working'.

The truth is a lot of people here are not even at the legal voting age. Add to that this is the internet and people can lie and choose whatever they think is funny, well....fascism...

I have yet to vote yet since I haven't seen a candidate I would likely vote for in my area and don't feel like wasting my time when I know anything they do won't effect me in the slightest.

To be honest, I want to go there just because I can.
But then again, I haven't ever voted either. Reading through the fine print just takes too much time to bother.

Is that like that bit in the third Pirates of the Carribean flick where the Pirates have an all out brawl?

Collectively speaking?

No I wasn't been sarcastic, I'm actually quite satisfied that this didn't ....

Well if I tell you what I hope doesn't happen, then somebody will try to replicate it.

Political ideologies cannot win nor lose and the purpose of this thread isn't to have any given ideology 'win', but I'm more than willing to become a fascist if fascist arguments are 'good'.

If you are concerned that because forumites are too young to take politics seriously, then it would make even more sense, given that the younger you expose someone to ideas and concepts, the easier they are to grasp when they are older.

When I voted for the first time last year, I just picked all the liberal candidates over the conservative candidates under the reasoning that I would rather see liberals than conservatives and that my vote was 'canceling out' my ideological opposite.

I was a bit disappointed by how voting was done actually. There is a lot of attention on the head of state, but the majority of the votes you give are to local representatives that you have never heard of. The only indication you have of who to vote for is a name and political party, which was practically worthless to me.

Which one is the "hang all politicians" label?
Anarchist, also fascist, communist too, well conservatives, and liberal. All of them actually, but the only one wanting to prevent politicians is anarchism, or at least that part itself is anarchistic.

If that's your first priority/want in politics, that would be 'Anarchist' in the poll in my mind.
