I'm not sure which sucks more, they're both rather crappy, but I have to say that football and soccer are not the same thing.
Unless you're trying to be snarky and saying football is the proper name for soccer in which case, come off it, American football does not have another name so it's obvious which two sports are being discussed in the context of 'football and soccer'.
