Just a short little video of an early battle with a new character (playtesting Drahara a bit).

Drahara is rather hard region to start the game, due to the saccar raiders and weak low tier troops. But things should work out once you've gotten some veteran speaman and desert archer.

It really is hard.  I am spending a lot of time as a prisoner

The hardest thing is trying to survive with untrained infantry against cavalry (especially horse archers).  I am going to try promoting to horsemen rather than archers/spearmen to see if that helps.

I know I am not that great a player, but I gave up trying to go native Draharan.  Just too frustrating

Fortunately, the Sultan asked me to collect taxes for his city.  Instead of turning the money in and collecting my 1500 or so, I took a gamble and spent about 2000 on good mercenary archers.  That set me on the right course, and I started collecting loot and prisoners (I was able to pay the Sultan back ).  I was then sent to Drachen to deliver a letter, where I found the loot to be very good!  Bye bye, Drahara!   It's just an awful place to start.

Then came my big break!  I came across this little fight:
mb21-1.jpg

Of course, I easily defeated the few surviving Wolf Knights and rescued some really fine troops.  So I am doing well now -- just not in Drahara.

I don't know what I want, really, to make Drahara a better place to start playing.  But it's not balanced at present.  Maybe more foot bandits?  Something to think about down the road.

Drahara is not meant to be an easy place to start. It's the same for Khergit in Native.
In the next version however I will try to make drahara troops more capable at killing horses and mounted troops. Balancing is still an issue regarding the bandits and minor factions. So far, in Drahara there are Saccar Raider, Desouk Slaver, Foreign Invader. The first one will be tricky early on, but the other two should be the most effective spawn to kill regarding Exp gain, prisoner price and difficulty. I can easily kill Foreign Invader with 70 Drahara mid tier troops, and losing nothing on highest difficulty.

The honor guards should be pretty hard but I guess I didn't make them good enough
You guys got it easy in 0.5, 0.6 they won't be as easy (if I remember to actually change their equipment)

I noticed. Most of their units are smelly peasants and bandits.

In my game, after their 2nd time of spawning they had actually recruited a lot.
I wanted to save about 2 Million before taking my first city, to maintain garrisons...
I've got huge garrisons......as I saw them close to Amarna, carrying the garrison of a whole city as prisoners.
So I decided to strike imediately and took Amarna with only 1.5 in cash.
After that I milked about 350 troops out of Nibor's Hood, which I could sign up because of the higher troop capacity
of a king then...
It was a hard fight, because they even had Amazons and Demon Worshippers in numbers
...but I had Eagle Knights...alot of them and my Inquisitors also came in handy...

So I think it's more of a coincidence, whether they are hard to defeat or not. Depends so to say
on those, they defeated before
