Brief Overview

After more than two years since the release of the first version the Vikingr development team is proud to present the final form of Vikingr 1.0. In the attempt to represent a wide selection of the old northern European peoples the Engle, Normant, Rus and Goídil have received a lot of attention in the previous patches. With this patch, after much tweaking and polishing, the Norðmenn themselves see a final overhaul with much of their old content reworked and expanded, to take their worthy place as namesake of the mod.

This is a new release which includes important bug fixes and other improvements to the mod. You can find the full changelog both of the new fix (which doesn't change the version number) and of the original 1.0 version further below.

Note that Vikingr is installed as a stand-alone version that does not require Steam. The installer contains the necessary files for it to be placed outside the Module folder, so it can be set up anywhere on your hard drive (Don't install it into your Warband Modules folder), but you may need to enter your warband-key after first installation. In case you only have a 5x5 or 6x4 Steam key you could take a look at this thread or use Taleworld's serial key converter.

If you already have Vikingr 1.0 installed on your computer, you can download this small patch which contains only the files affected by the latest fix. If you use the full installer you don't need this.

This completely optional, 100% compatible fix corrects the class names of the Rus faction by using proper early Old East Slavic forms.

To start you merely need to click the automatically created Vikingr-shortcut on your desktop. The installer will create two shortcuts, with the main one using a special program to randomize the loadscreen. If you have problems with this, simply use the other shortcut.

[size=12pt]Updated Banner Pack [Last Update: 28-11-14]

This optional, client side banner pack contains a number of native banner replacements and a few additional clan banners (that are not yet within the clan banner section).

Updated Map Pack [Last update: 27-11-14]

If you're hosting a server, you might want to download and implement slightly tweaked versions of some of the maps (Also includes the strict minimum range script setting).

If you have problems with connecting to the server. It will say "unable to connect to server", this might help:

\Documents\Mount&Blade Warband\rgl_config.txt, open it, find "use_secure_connection =" make sure it equals 0, see if it helps (also you might want to change render_buffer_size = to the half of your video card memory, for example mine has 1gb so its set to 512)

Thanks to mtarini for OpenBRF, allowing us to properly edit the games resources properly in the first place,
as well as cmpxchg8b, for his creation of the warband script enhancer that made so many script changes possible.

Why is it called 1.0? It should be sth like 1.01 or 1.1. Just for distinction of those two versions.

Because it's a hotfix. Not the next stage in development.

Even then, as you say, some developments add a number for hotfixes too, but there's no standard ****ing format is there? Everyone development, mod, game does it differently. This hotfix doesn't add nearly as much as an actual Víkingr patch so why bother numbering it? Christ, just be happy there's a patch.

What a thing to complain about -.-

Anyway! Good work, folks!

Good work pals, and thank you! Much looking forward to trying this thing out.

Compose thyself, brutherin. no need to start half a flamewar  Although minor, the point is nonetheless valid. With this clearly not being the same version, appropriate is some form of distinction in the designator of such progress. Something along the likes of 1.0b would quite do the trick.

As Celtic said, this is supposed to be a hotfix that got delayed due to unforeseeable circumstances, hence no new version number. While it ended up including enough changes to put it halfway between a hotfix and a new patch, it's not a real patch in the strict sense.

Fix installed..................................check...100%
Incorrect authorization key.............check...100%

Damn, again that issue. See you later.

It works again for me

Fix is ok, works great, btw I was praying  to see our clan banner in this fix, but maybe next patch will add it.

The devs wanted to include it, but unfortunately it couldn't be done because there is no room for more clan banners, and they had run out of clan banners they could replace with newer ones. I guess you'll have to stick with picking a rarely-used banner and mod it to include yours client-side.

Because, as he said, it's way less confusing than having 2 1.0 downloadables.
And calm down, he's just giving a suggestion too, which does make its sense for less update savvy people, not really a complaint...

It is. No matter how you look at it, considering those number of changes made and listed, this is in fact a spanking new version compared to before, delay or not. If we are to be strict, regardless of what you actually prefer calling "it", aforementioned dictates labeling the update as just that, with different numbering or likewise. All that to give notice to efforts that have been made, and, perchance foremost: making it unambiguously clear what is what to everyone involved. It really isn't more complicated than that, which is the reason for my persistence.

And with that, Q.E.D.

to end this ridiculous discussion about version number
its still 1.0 because WE WANTED our final version to be 1.0
this fix was not even intended at firs, it's a wonder there is one
