I like to root for a particular side in a conflict. But the Syrian Civil War confuses me. Is any side worth rooting for? If you can bring any information to a discussion about this, please do.

Regime
The regime is made up of government forces and loyalist paramilitary. Hezbollah has entered the war on this faction's side. Iran supports this faction. The Russian government supports this side, apparently because the regime gives Russia a warmwater port. This side is largely Shia.

Free Syrian Army
The Free Syrian Army is made up of deserters from the regime's army (and civilian recruits?). Included in this faction for convenience are mujahideen groups allied with the Free Syrian Army, such as Al-Nusra. Some countries like Qatar support this side. The United States government prefers this faction. This side is largely Sunni.

Kurds
The Kurds are trying to make Kurdistan into a nation, as they've been trying to do for a long time. Northern Syria roughly falls into this region. They've battled every other faction, but seem to be the least hostile to the Free Syrian Army.

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is a mujahideen group that has effectively become its own faction in the war. Apparently they were allied with the Free Syrian Army at first, but hostility has broken out. Their goal is to create an Islamic state which comprises Iraq and the Levant.

I support the Dark Side. They kill civilians too but atleast they're not being liars about it.

... the Kurds hardly have a prominent place in this war. The victor will either be a free Syrian state or Assad's regime, period. The Kurds are only fighting for an attempt to grab land and influence. That won't work.

Not necessarily. They control a sizeable section of Syria. Perhaps the regime or FSA will offer them that land in exchange for an alliance.

That's not really how stuff works any more. Turkey and Iraq won't give them ****, so why would Syria? Besides, foreign powers are funding/supplying the FSA, not the Kurds (AFAIK).

Assad.

FSA are just Islamic extremists and Al-Qaeda, who have used chemical weapons(blaming it on Assad) as well as killed thousands of innocent civilians, as well as prisoners.
Assad is winning, slowly, but the USA and Israel are starting to get more involved in funding the rebels.. why?

Turkey and Iraq aren't in a civil war like this. I'm not saying it's likely, but it isn't impossible.

How do you know this?

It's not like I'm a fan, but I'd rather have a dictatorship than another cluster****storm like Libya and Egypt. I'm expecting Assad to win.

Nope, they are quite the mixed bunch. Also impressive intel you have gathered - what type of what chem weapons did they use where and how did they blame assad?

Weakening Iran and Hisbollah (shiites), which is also of interest for the Saudis (sunni).

The intel gathered from the FSA is no better. Of course they're going to blame Assad. Sarin is most likely to be used. There isn't even any clear evidence Assad has even used chemical weapons anyway. Since the FSA have Al-Qaeda in their ranks, and are supplied by them, who's to say they don't have chemical weapons? Even if Assad has used chemical weapons on the FSA, he's doing the world a favour.

Doesn't the deployment of chemical weapons require an immense amount of technical expertise and equipment to launch them though?
Something the FSA isn't seen to have?

Nobody said otherwise. The point is that you are spouting claims as if they were facts.

So you are unable to back up your claims?

No sides that kill civilians get my vote. Send in the UN on a peacemaking mandate if anything.

Yes, send them in so that they can choke on sarin.
You know who's good at countering chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats? Mm, yes, any force the UN sends to Syria.
