The text is there, yes, but it's not as if "the byzanites" were skeered and confused of it. The text is trying too hard to make it seem all neat and mysterious and makes it seem as if the text predates the byzantines whereas it's perfectly ordinary graffiti made by soldiers in byzantine service. (almost wrote surface)
