2. FEATURES:

- A very large map
of Europe and North Africa, with a huge amount of historical settlements and lords.

- Warparties
Since the number of lords has increased (becauze of the size of the map), it has been often difficult to find a desired amount of historical lords for some factions. For example, Almohad Caliphate has only 19 lords, which does not show their true strength from the period, and also doesn't fit with their immense size. That's why we added Warparties. Warparties are basically just armies without any lord as leader, but they do still follow the real lords on campaigns, besiege castles, and fight enemies just as any real lord would do. A warparty is lead by a leader called ''Captain''. Captains can't give quests, can't hire you as a mercenary, and can't own fiefs. They only serve to increase the military might of a faction.

- Ambushes
In Europe 1200, we also want to represent the tactics that certain cultures used in warfare. Therefore, we have included ambushes. Factions that have ambush ability are: Irish Kingdoms, Kingdom of Connacht, Kingdom of Mann, Kingdom of the Isles, and Banate of Bosnia. If you attack one of their armies, there is a certain chance that you'll run into an ambush. Also, if you are a vassal of one of these factions, you will sometimes have the oppurtunity to ambush your enemies yourself.

- New Recruitment System
The whole way of recruitment is reworked, since, in Warband, a serf can rise to be a knight by fighting some battles, which is not realistic. The new way of recruitment looks somewhat like this:
You can recruit from all settlements (villages, towns and castles) and each type of settlements has a different troop tree, that variates between different factons. The troop trees from different settlements represent the feudal system much better.
The troop trees are:
- Noble troops, hired from castles.
- Sergeant (Professional) troops, hired from castles.
- Militia troops, hired from towns (factions that don't have a militia tree, will recruit Rural troops from towns, instead)
- Rural troops, hired from villages

- AI Calculation
Since Europe 1200 is one of the most demanding mods ever for Warband, we had to come up with some system that would make weak PC able to run the mod as well. We introduced a limited way to custom your own AI (which is the most perfomance-costing thing), and now, you can basically choose between 4 levels in the camp menu (game settings sub-menu): Very light, light, balanced, and heavy. How much the AI calculates depends on your choice, but you shouldn't actually notice a big diffrence between even heavy and very light in terms of gameplay, although there can be a big diffrence in terms of perfomance.

- Manpower
To help the players who are playing with smaller/weaker factions, we created the Manpower option.
More details on Manpower can be found on this page.

- Military Orders
More info on the Orders can be found on this page.

- A lot of new companions
Some are historical, some based on medieval legends, and some specifically created for this mod.
These are the companions that are currently in the mod:
1. Robin Hood
2. Fulk FitzWarin
3. Nicollo Antonio Pollo - a travelling Venetian merchant, who lost a fortune in a pirate attack (he is a semi-fictional grandfather of Marco Polo).
4. Holger Danske
5. Koroghlu
6. Roland de Maine - a brave French knight-errant, landless and pennyless, in the search for glory and adventure.
7. Eteriani
8. Eustace the Monk
9. Basileos Akritas
10. Wilhelm Tell
11. Beatrijs
12. Francesco d'Assisi
13. Astolfo de Benevento -
14. Roger Godberd
15. Ibn Arabi
16. Dobrynya Nikitich
17. Arn de Gothia
18. Guillem de Montcada - an obscure Aragonese noble, pursued by the authorities, later to become Viscount of Béarn (he is a son of Viscount Guillem of Béarn).
19. Raimbaut de Vaqueiras
20. Blondel de Nesle
21. Inge von Rupertshall
22. Margery Kempe
23. Selomon - a former Ethiopian soldier, tricked by a turn of fate.
24. Roger z Rykach - an aging Polish adventurer, suffering from amnesia.
25. Trueno - a hardened Spanish crusader, on the run from the law.
26. Paolo Barelli - a wandering Sicilian thief, skilled in archery and looting.
27. Lothair von Erlangen - an experienced Franconian mercenary, who will do anything for a price.
28. Bogdan
29. Valkadin Glog
And here is the planned Companion weel:

- Noble tournaments
We wanted to make a complete reboot of tournaments to make them represent as how they actually worked in the year 1200. Tournaments in Warband have nobles fighting alongside commoners, which was not the case in the middle-ages. So, we divided the tournaments and now we have:
- Pitfights, in which you can compete only if you are not a vassal to a faction
- Noble tournaments, for which you have to become a vassal to a faction
In order to compete in the Noble tournaments, the player must first join a team. If the player wants to join a team, he needs to fulfill the basic requirements - being a vassal and having a certain amount of renown (the amount of renown required varies from team to team, more on that later). Teams consist of 8 members, all of who are nobles. Team members are found in Castle halls, and the player must speak to them, in order to join the team. Teams only compete in their respective Tournament Circuit, which means that you will not see an Italian team competing in France. To add to the realism, not all of E1200 factions will have Noble tournaments, but all will have Pitfights.
Here is list of Circuits, and therefore, the list of factions that will have Noble tournaments:
1. Iberian circuit (Castille, Leon, Portugal, Navarre, Aragon)
2. French circuit (England, France, Toulouse)
3. Scandinavian (Norway, Denmark, Sweden)
4. Italian circuit (Venice, Lombards, Tuscans, Papal States, Sicily, Genoa, Pisa)
5. German circuit (Holy Roman Empire, Flanders, Holland, Frisia, Brabant, Bohemia)

The list of teams (with renown requirements):
Iberian:
House of Barcelona: 350
House of Castilla: 400
House of Castro: 350
House of Navarra: 320
House of Montcada: 270
House of Empuries: 270
House of Urgell: 270
House of Forcauquier: 150

French:
House of Plantagenet: 450
House of Rouergue: 150
House of Blois: 400
House of Champagne: 600
House of Foix: 300
House of Coucy: 200
House of Montfort: 200
House of Dammartin: 200

Scandinavian:
House of Estridsen: 200
House of Hvide: 250
House of Griffin: 130
House of Sverre: 130

German:
House of Flanders: 700
House of Brabant: 500
House of Holland: 300
House of Hohenstaufen: 500
House of Welf: 500
House of Ascania: 300
House of Wittelsbach: 300
House of Přemyslid: 300

Italian:
House of Vohburg: 400
House of Dandolo: 500
House of Sanudo: 400
House of Morosini: 400
You can make extreme fortunes in these tournaments, but you can loose extreme fortunes as well - as well as your renown.

- Custom made settlements
To further distance us from Native, and to make our mod richer and more unique, we have made a number of custom settlemets.
Settlements with the name (f.e. Bremen) are unique, and apply only to a single settlement. The ''placeholders'' are scenes that are used for more than one settlement, and are usually related to the map's region.
Towns: Bremen, Nüremberg
Castles: Würzburg, Hohenzollern, Adriatic placeholder, Iberian placeholder, Central European placeholder, Northwestern coastal European placeholder, Danish placeholder
Villages: Northwestern European and North African placeholders, Coastal Mercenary camp

- Knights and Bannerets with own coat of arms:
Each knight and banneret (the regular troops) will have their own coat of arms to represent historical accuracy.
No knight had the coat of arms of his lord, so now, you'll see even your own knights running around with many different colors.

- Quests
A lot of new quests, including the really epic ones, like creating an Order of Saint George, for example.
More info on quests can be found on this page.
Current unique custom quests:
Aragon's Saint
Difficulty: Hard.
Given by: King Pere the Catholic.
Requirements:
- Player is a vassal of Aragon.
- Aragon is at war with the Almohad Caliphate.
- Archbishop Rodrigo de Rocabertin is under King Pere.
The Throne of Connacht
Difficulty: Hard.
Given by: Chief Cathal Crobdearg Ua Conchobair.
Requirements:
- Player is a vassal of Connacht.
- All original lords of Connacht still belong to them.
Absalon's Tax
Difficulty: Easy.
Given by: Archbishop Absalon
Requirements:
- Absalon owns Lund.
- Absalon is under Denmark.

- Different cultures
For example, if you start a game with Bulgaria, you would probably expect to find only Bulgarian troops to recruit. But, historically, in that country, there were also a lot of Vlachs and Cumans, who had important role in everyday life of Bulgaria. That's why, there are also villages in Bulgaria which do not spawn Bulgarians, but Vlachs and Cumans, depending on the village. Other factions have different cultures too - for example, in Holy Roman Empire, you can recruit Rhenish, Franconian, Bavarian, Saxon and Swabian troops, depending of the region where the village is.

The mod also includes:
- Custom made equipment (armours, helmets, weapons...)
- Custom made town/castle icons
- Custom made player banners
- Custom drawn images
- Naval battles
- New horses
- Expanded Mercenary troop tree
- Many more things
For a detailed lists of things that we were adding in each version, visit the Changelog thread.

Well just at a glance in the Rural Bulgarian Vlach troop tree, bowman, hunter, and marksman are Red instead of Blue. The Militia troop tree shows two possible upgrades for the Mace Militia yet they are both Sword Militia.

The Bosnian Rural troop tree iseems to say that a Pikeman can upgrade into the same Pikeman.

Quick question about Vlastelin class ( Serbia and bosnia have them ++ some others)

If l remember correctly

Vlastelin was landowner ( a generalised title)
Vlasteličić was small landowner
Velmoža was grand landowner.

It just sounds a bit odd that a "grand landowner" upgrades to landowner??

I might be wrong!! Just wanted to point that out.

Was also wondering ,is bosnian vlastelin = serbian? The reason i ask is that they upgrade to the same lvl in different ways. (se velmoza vs pronoiar)

Baštinik --- Velmoža --- Boljar --- Knight --- Vlastelin
Baštinik --- Pronoiar --- Velmoža --- Boljar --- Vlastelin --- Stegonoša

For that mater the question applies for any two/three factions that have very similar trees.

Btw kudos on the mod, it looks epic!

Debo said:
Quick question about Vlastelin class ( Serbia and bosnia have them ++ some others)
We will always have questions about that, even historians themselves often dissagree about classes in medieval Bosnia and Serbia.
However, since I was the creator of that confusing masterpiece that is Serbo-Bosnian Noble troop tree, I will try to answer.

Vlasteličić was small landowner
Yes, they were Soldiers from the middle class.
By aquiring some wealth through different means, they were ''becoming'' Vlastelica (sing. Vlasteličić) which means ''petty nobles''.
However, I haven't put them as Noble units, because they weren't exactly Nobles, but rich soldiers.
Even the name Vlasteličić is a bit derogative term, so my guess is that the name was given to them by the true Nobles.

Vlastelin was landowner ( a generalised title)
Velmoža was grand landowner.
It just sounds a bit odd that a "grand landowner" upgrades to landowner??
That part tends to get a bit messy.
Vlastelin was pretty much a term for the whole high nobility, but there were instances when that rule didn't seem to apply - I already mentioned conflicting opinions from historians.
However, the main reason for putting Vlastelin as a high-tiered unit were the gameplay reasons - all the other names of the tree (Velmoža, Pronoiar, Boljar, Baštinik...) are very loose. That is, we don't know if Velmoža was a higher or a lower title than Boljar. Or whether Boljar is also a Baštinik, or Velmoža could be sometimes Baštinik and sometimes Pronoiar. Sounds confusing? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma_ov_Y6IBE
But, because of the gameplay reasons, we had to sort them out somehow, right?
So, since Vlastelin is often being put as a highest Knightly-like unit (f.e. Tsardoms did the same), I also followed that pattern. Even Bulgaria, in this mod, has a level 6 unit called Vlastelin. Yes, Vlastelin is basically the name for all other nobles combined, but it was done for gameplay reasons. The more accurate name would probably be Župan (Prince), but it would be a bit weird to have Princes as lords and Princes as troops.
Another example: Hungary, in our mod, has a unit called Hungarian Knight, and an upgrade of that, a unit called Vitéz. But Knight and Vitez are basically the same thing! Why are they put as different units then? For the gameplay reasons.
You will find that thing often in various mods - history sometimes must be pushed a bit aside, for the gameplay not to suffer.
Another example (and I'm done with them, I swear!)
Castillian Sergeant troop tree:
Infantry - Solidarus - Sergeant - Veteran Sergeant - Man at Arms
The name of the tier 1 unit is Infantry. But what about Solidarius, Sergeant and Vet. Sergeant? Aren't they also Infantry?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8u7px_GzWQ
Infantry could be a name for the whole ''footman troop tree'', the same way like Vlastelin could be a name for the whole ''noble troop tree''.
But, I repeat once again, historical facts sometimes must be taken loosely (especially if those facts are rather loose to begin with) for the gameplay not to suffer.
So, no, in the end, I don't think that putting Vlastelin over Velmoža is wrong, I actually think it's a clever way to clear things up a bit.
Oh, and btw, Velmoža means ''grand man'' - Vel(iki)Muž, literally: Grand Husband.

Yes, they are practically the same unit - tier 5 Nobles with pretty much the same equipment.
There is a reason I made some changes to the names, so Bosnian Velmoža and Boljar are a lower tier than Serbian Velmoža and Boljar, which creates some confusion.
Pronoia is the reason for that.
In the mod's times, Serbia was under heavy influence by the Byzantines, while that influence didn't really spread to Bosnia that much.
So, to show that influence, I had to give a unit called Pronoiar to Serbia (Bulgaria will also have it in the next version), because it is believed that pronoias probably ''came'' to Serbia around 1180s.
However, since it felt wrong to give Pronoiar to Bosnia, I gave them something that would show a Western influence that Bosnia was under - a Knight.
Of course, it would be silly to put Knight as a tier 2 unit, so I just moved the whole tree a bit, so Knight could be tier 4.
It's really not that confusing, if you read the troop trees before you start playing. And it's not like the all those units are of different strength - the first 5 noble units of Serbia and Bosnia are practically the same, albeit with a bit different names.

One more thing, there will probably be some poeple who will rant about why Serbia has a level 6 Noble unit, and Bosnia doesn't.
That is because:
1. Stegonoša was mentioned as a noble military title in late 12th century Serbia, and for Bosnia... we can only guess, unfortunatelly.
2. Bosnia is more mountainous, and, in those times, relied more on Archers and guerrila warfare, than on heavy cavalry.

That, however, does not mean that Bosnia is weaker than Serbia. Bosnia has 2 things that Serbia doesn't:
    a) 5 levels of Archer Rural troop tree (Serbia has 4).
    b) Ambush ability (Serbia doesn't have it). You can read about Ambushes it in the 1st post of this thread.

Btw kudos on the mod, it looks epic!
We know it looks epic. We have made it.

Mihailo, it would be better to keep names as they appear in the 'official' release. I don't remember having introduced so many specific serbian terms in their noble troop tree.

SICILY:
Sicilian lords mostly have names built like this:
NAME + DE/DA + LAST NAME/TOWN.
For example: Bartolomeo da Luci.
However, it is a mistake (in the middle part), because the correct Italian term is DI, not DE or DA.
So, the names of Sicilian lords should be changed from DA/DE to DI.

Most Western factions have a troop Banchelor.
The N is incorrect, so I removed that letter from all of those troops.

Come on, don't tell me that you haven't included that in the official release?
I worked my ass off.

I don't remember having introduced so many specific serbian terms in their noble troop tree.
I was saying that for a long, long time, but apparently, pretty much no one heard me.
The Noble troop trees for Bosnia and Serbia (before the changes I made) were temporary, or placeholders if you will. They were based mostly on the XIV century info, when the two factions became heavily Westernised. I did that because I lacked propper knowledge of the mod's time period, and whatever I tried, I simply couldn't get the satisfactory troop tree. That's why, I created that temporary Westernised tree, which is incorrect for the year 1200.
However, now that I've made changes, I claim that those troop trees are very good - in fact, they can hardly be better put together.

If the number of Native names bother you, I don't know why, it is practicaly the same as before.
F.e. Serbia had Sluga --- Veliki Sluga --- Squire --- Knight --- Vlastelin --- Stegonoša
That is 4 Native names and 2 English.
Now they have Baštinik --- Pronoiar --- Velmoža --- Boljar --- Vlastelin --- Stegonoša
That's 4 Native names, 1 Anglo-Greek (Pronoiar) and one universaly Slavic, which is never translated into English (Boljar).

I mean, if that is the problem, I could somehow work out to translate some of those names.
For example, Stegonoša could roughly be translated as Standard-bearer.
However, bear in mind that those names are not fully Native.
For example, according to my changes, there are Bosnian Vlastelin, Serbian Vlastelin and Bulgarian Vlastelin. So it's not like they are only faction specific names.

So there it is. Those changes I made to those troop trees are E1200 historical, and really, there wouldn't be any sense  to keep the SER/BOS troop trees, prior to v0.20

What, me? Um... Uh... No, of course not!
I wasn't scared at all. Me? No way...
Umm... Let us stay on topic, shall we?

Serbian troop tree is not ok. There is no Serbian Vlasteličić Horseman. I have it in my army by releasing captured prisoner of defeted lord but I dont know how to train that unit.

Are you a vassal of Serbia? You can only train them if you are their vassal. They can be trained in castles.

It is an upgrade of the Veteran Sergeant (recruited from Castles).
Are you sure it's missing? I am looking at it right now.
