The 2nd United States Sharpshooters was an infantry regiment that served
in the Union Army during the American Civil War. From 1861 to January 1863 they were members of the
"First Iron Brigade" also known as the "Iron Brigade of the East".
Company H, the third and last company of this arm raised in Vermont was organized in December,
1861, at Brattleboro, where it was mustered in on the 31st of the same month, with Gilbert Hart,
Captain, Henry Herbert and Albert Buxton, Lieutenants.
