The 2nd Moscow Opolchenie hopes to become one of russia's main regiments, we intend to do this via vodka and elbow grease alone. If anyone would like to request a linebattle or invite us to some sort of event Id be delighted to muster as many hairy, scraggy, warsworn, soldiers as I can find. Just find my steam name in the "Joining Us" Section. Thanks, all Polkovnik (Colonel) Saxonskiy. Also we wont always play as opolchenie, in larger battles with multiple regiments we are more likely to be opolchenie, but due to them being milita for 1v1s and smaller linebattles we will be either Jagerskiy or Simbirskiy.

Id also like to mention a gaming community, they host our ts3 and game servers FOR FREE cause the owner is such a grand guy. Link to Objective Gaming website - http://www.objectivegaming.com/ Please show it some love, it deserves it. It launches on the 21st-22nd of July or start of the summer holidays for most, and there will be an event of some sort - not necessarily for NW, perhaps minecraft or something of that more casual genre - keep a look out on the Objective gaming website if your interested in coming.

With the invasion of Russia by the French and their Allies in July, 1812, the Militia or "Opolchenie" was raised. As Nafziger says, "These units were poorly clothed, and badly armed. Much of their equipment was makeshift; hatchets replacing sabers, pikes replacing muskets. Their organization was very inconsistent, although efforts were made to model it after the regular line units."  The basic unit of the Opolchenie was the "druzhin" or cohort/regiment. An unconfirmed theoretical organization for such a Cohort found in Nafziger was 1 Grenadier company of 116 all ranks (musket armed), 1 "Light" battalion of 4 companies armed with muskets (135 all ranks each), and 2 pike battalions, each of 4 companies (221 all ranks each). Moscow in particular raised some units that were (at least theoretically) all armed with Muskets. As time went on, these troops were often used as cadres to replace losses from the regular units. Supposedly their one universal insignia was a brass cross worn on the cap inscribed "For Faith and the Tzar", from which the more familiar, later Prussian Landwehr cross was derived.

Moscow Opolchenie consisted of
3 Jager Regts of 4 Bns, 8 Foot Regts (mainly pike armed), 1 battery giving a total of 34867 men

Each Regiment had 3-4 Bns of 4 coys each of 150 men. So the theortical strength of a battalion was 600 men.

The Moscow Militia was split into four Divisions in August 1812.

1st Moscow Opolchenie Division (12 August 1812)
I-IV/1st Jäger Regiment
I-IV/2nd Foot
I-IV/4th Foot
I-IV/6th Foot

Every nation has critical moments when the strength and nobility of its spirit can be measured,’ wrote prominent Russian writer Vissarion Belinsky. For Russia , one such moment was at Borodino on 7 September 1812. The battle – with over 280,000 men present on both sides and between 75,000 and 80,000 casualties – proved to be one of the largest battles of the 19th century and one of the bloodiest battles in military history. Its importance in military, political, social or cultural terms can hardly be overestimated.

The People's Militia (Russian: Narodnoe Opolcheniye or Opolchenie (Russian: Народное ополчение, lit. "popular regimentation" or "people's volunteer's militia") was the name given to irregular troops formed from the population in Russia and Soviet Union. They fought alongside the regular army during several wars throughout its history.

The People's Militia is of the type known as "national troops" such as the Dnieper Cossacks, or German Landwehr, and although often translated as the "people's militia",, "home guard",, "people-in-arms", "national popular army", "civilian reserves", "popular levy", "People's Volunteer Army", "national guard...the factory regiments", "bataillons ouvriers", "all men fit to bear arms from their 21st year", like "British Local Defence Volunteers", "a hastily mustered militia, the opolchenie", "a reserve force", "Opolchenie (a kind of "Landsturm")", "home guard militia", "volunteer militia", "territorial army", or "temporary militias composed of mostly peasant 'volunteers'" its members never belonged to an organised military force, but were in all cases selectively accepted from a body of volunteers during a national emergency.

The People's Militia features prominently in early Russian history, for example in The Tale of Igor's Campaign when it refers to the entire force led on a campaign. It was used for political purposes when the Grand Duchy of Moscow assumed the leading role in the 16th-century Russia. It sought to emphasise the Tsar as the "father" of all of Russians, which included other principalities which sought to remain independent. Before the unification of Russians under the leadership of Moscow, each city and town had its own Opolcheniye not named Narodnoe, but named after the city or town, so Novgorodskoye Opolcheniye, Suzdalskoye Opolcheniye, Vladimirskoye Opolcheniye, etc. These were not militia as such, but armed crowds that, when attacked, would arm themselves and gather into a polk, which is translated in its modern meaning as a regiment.

2y Moscow Opolchenie is founded by the remaining members of the GdP after the GdP goes through massive members loss. We now have the ideology that the GdP was the larvae for the of the most kick ass regiment ever and as such will rize again... Just like the fenix. Only Tenacious D fans will get that reference, so heres a link so I dont seem random: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8vqJJ68ykE Watch it, if anything the video is funny
