With a two-handed sword? Besides, in M&B shields usually located at the back.
It is a pity, I would like a passive protection.

And maybe you can equip a one handed weapon with that Claymore as a second option. A dirk or a basked hilted broadsword would work extremely well with that targe.

The reason why the shield is worn on the hip is because it's a Scottish targe. It's a type of buckler, as far as I'm aware, which are usually worn at the hip due to ease of movement. Albeit, I recall most targes having spikes in the middle for stabby business preferably carried out against englishmen.
