We are the Army of the Netherlands. We fight for our Fatherland against all those who oppose us and wish to oppress us and burn our homes and kill our families. We have stood in the shadows for too long, now we show ourselves and brace for the coming storm. We will stand, and we will fight. For Honor, For our Families, and for the Fatherland!
We will Accept any regiments who are based on Belgian or Dutch units during the period of 1813-1815

History
Netherlands infantry battalions consisted of 6 companies and 1 depot company. The 1st and the 6th Companies were designated as Flank Companies, while the 1st-4th were Centre Companies. The Flank Companies formed the elite units of the battalion, comprising the best men.

The Netherland infantry units were arrayed in 2 instead of in 3 ranks. The infantry was armed with British Brown Bess muskets. Majoor Boersma writes, "As early as August 1814, while the Brown Bess was still being widely distributed, it was decided that the French musket would become the standard infantry firearm for the Army. It would be produced in the Netherlands as the Model 1815 ..."

Artillery battery consisted of 6 cannons and 2 howitzers.
Cavalry regiment had 3 or 4 squadrons.

One of the best Netherland infantry units was the 7th Line Battalion. Especially the officers were excellent. Commander F. C. Vandensande served in the French 112th Line Infantry Regiment, and was awarded with Légion d’Honneur. Captain L’Olivier served in the French 7th Line Infantry Regiment as commander of grenadier company. Captain Nieuport served in the French 13th Tirailleur Regiment of Young Guard. Lieutenant Nieulandt served in the 1st Regiment of Honor Guard. Lieutenant Scheltens served in the famous Grenadiers of Old Guard.

According to Erwin Muilwijk the Netherland troops in 1815 were "... typical new recruits with no campaign experience yet; just like every other army had large numbers of them in this period. Obviously Jager and Line battalions were professional soldiers, but even these had large numbers of new men. The militia was all sort of conscripted, but there was no specific difference I think. Not a bad army, not a distinguishable army perhaps at the start; but it prooved its task, to me. Perhaps a study on its own........"
(The new Netherlands army had large numbers of recruits. For example out Of the 739 NCOs and privates of the 27th Jager Battalion only 182 men, or 23 %, had combat experience.)

Quite interesting view on the quality of Wellington's troops at Waterloo presents Italian historian Alessandro Barbero. He writes, "Nevertheless, there were still some identifiable differences in quality between the armies in the field that had little to do with national character. Such an assertion would have surprised the combatants' contemporaries, who put great faith in cliches about the racial qualities of various peoples; indeed, many generalizations of this kind were considered to have indisputable scientific value.
In fact, however, the compartment of troops on the battlefield at Waterloo was substantially the same whatever their nationality. Even in Wellington's composite, heterogeneous army, the gap between British troops and "foreign" troops - a gap that British officers and soldiers, with their ingrained chauvinism, considered unbridgeable - did not prove signifcant under fire ...
So heterogeneous an army certainly had its disadvantages from an organizational point of view, but on a tactical level, contary to what some historians have maintained, the fighting quality of battalions and squadrons in Wellington's army was substantially the same irrespective of their nationality". (Barbero - "The Battle" pp 19-20)

Unfortunately many older British accounts downplayed the role played by the Netherlands troops. Instead these authors have tended to magnify out of all proportion the accomplishments of the modest numbers of British soldiers at Waterloo. The British troops are almost super-human, the Duke practically a deity. These authors created a virtual reality, a feel-good network. Anything which seemed to detract from their reputation as pillars of the temple of belief in British martial invincibility is omitted in their works. The strong bias is confusing and at times comical.
The words describing the Netherlands and French setbacks of failures are expressive :
- "trashed"
- "mauled"
- "utterly routed"
- "fled in complete panic"
- "fleeing left and right"
- "whole formations broke"
- "...the carnage was awful..." - Jac Weller
- "the terror stricken masses" - Siborne
- and my favorite: "French officers were brought up
from the hollow in great numbers, delivering up their swords."

British setbacks are described in either dry or mild words:
- "retiring to safety in an irregular manner" - an NCO, British Foot Guard
- "taking a better position in the rear"
- "falling back rapidly"
- "moved to the rear"
- "tactically out manoeuvred"
- and my favorite: "an advance to the rear in force"

The Netherlands soldiers are: cannon fodder, paper tigers, cowardly, bastards, and sadly unreliable.
The British soldiers are: motivated by sense of duty, professional, confident, our boys , heroes, die hards , dare devils, and knights of the battlefield.

Would be much cooler if you fought for the Batavian Republic but I suppose that wouldnt be too realistic since they didnt exist anymore in the 1810's.

Anyways, good luck!

The Royal Army of the Netherlands won a great victory tonight! The 7de Linie and 5de Militie fought together under their Prince once again as they did at Waterloo.

Attention, we are going to begin recording of Project 7 tomorrow so tell your fellow regiment members to get on tomorrow and come to teamspeak at around noon EST then we will begin organizing.

A decisive and utterly total victory today for the Army of the Netherlands, we made the most dogged charges and pressed the initiative far more than any other regiment in the battle.

I get most killz in army, nom nom
Good fighitng today! was great fun aswell
